Design brief

Organization name

The Ultimate Hockey Recruit: How We Made It

Description of business

I run a website (www.jrhockeyrecruit.com) that provides info for hockey players to get recruited. I am writing a book to sell on the site and need a cover for it.

Organization industry

Sport

Description

The book title is: "The Ultimate Hockey Recruit: How To Crush It and Get Recruited"

--------------

Author Name is: "John D. Wires" on the front cover.

--------------

The size is 6x9 inches but would need you to be willing to shrink to 5x8 (not sure what the best size is to be honest)

--------------

Back cover should read:

"Forget the old concept of waiting around for a hockey scout to find you. Chances are, it won't happen.

Whether you want to play US College Hockey or join a Major Junior program Wires sets out a step-by-step guide for young players to take action, get recognized and recruited.

The Ultimate Hockey Recruit chronicles how Wires ended up playing NCAA DI hockey on a full scholarship and then jumped ship to play in the Ontario Hockey League. Wires teaches how he and other players got recruited even though they weren't the best players on the ice nor did they have the best stats to lure scouts to the rink every night.

Wires is on a mission to tell the stories of successful hockey players and convey the not so obvious traits of successful recruits.

To do so, he tracked down current and former NHL and college players, scouts, agents, trainers, coaches and GM's to assemble the ultimate guide. The Ultimate Hockey Recruit enables players to live the dream and get recruited to play the best sport in the world."

About the Author

John Wires is a former hockey player and owner of http://www.jrhockeyrecruit.com. Playing college hockey enabled John to finish his degree and move on to law school. He now practices law in Toronto. His practice includes sports law, acting for players and their agents in North America.

--------------

On the back cover (bottom left) I'd like it to say "In Association With:" and then include the .ai file logo (attached).

Barcode
When your files go through the Amazon review process, their system will place an ISBN barcode in a 2" by 1.2" white box on the bottom right-hand corner of the book's back cover (next to the above logo).

Images or text in the barcode location will be covered when the book is printed. Make sure no important elements appear where the barcode will be placed.

--------
GENERAL

I need a book cover design that jumps off the shelves and looks very professional. If you have the design skills to stage the book in a fashion similar to the attached doc ("Screen Shot 2012-02-28") it will increase your chances of me selecting you. I am willing to pay extra if you can stage your design like that.

I like the modern, sleek and simple designs; including the above noted Screen Shot (attached).

The cover need not include hockey photos and can be all graphic design although at this point I am open to seeing concepts for both.

I'll require all native design files in whatever format you use along with appropriate output design files (pdf etc) ... I assume most use adobe products. I'll likely need someone to make slight alterations closer to the book's publication (so I'd like to work with the winner in the future).

--------------

DESIGN DIMENSIONS

Design files must be compatible with Amazon's self-publishing service. Submissions MUST COMPLY WITH:

https://www.createspace.com/Product…verPDF.jsp

Assume 250 pages so the spine will be .563 inches (250 x .002252)

In particular note:

The spine of your book
Every book will vary slightly when bound. Allow for 0.0625" variance on either side of the fold lines for your cover. For example, if your spine width is 1", your text should be no wider than 0.875". Because of this variance, avoid hard edges or lines that end on the fold line.

Thanks! And I look forward to seeing your designs!

Further requirements

GET CREATIVE BUT TRY TO KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I'd like to see some designs that have a white background with red text.

Feel free to play with and modify the icon/emblem attached as well.
