Description

OrphansNoMore Press owns a novel entitled LAW SCHOOL, written by Hense R. Ellis II. We need a book cover: front, spine, and back for a book size that is roughly 6" x 9" US TRADE, perhaps a bit larger.

The primary colors of the cover should be black, white, and crimson (blood red). A LITTLE GRAY IS FINE TOO.

WE RECOMMEND CRIMSON AS THE BACKROUND COVER, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON, RED COVERS STAND OUT ON A SHELF OR A DISPLAY. THE AUTHOR'S NAME SHOULD BE IN LIGHT GRAY. THE BOOK TITLE SHOULD BE BLACK OR DARK GRAY.

THE BOOK TITLE SHOULD BE LARGE, AND UNDER IT IN MUCH SMALLER LETTERS SHOULD BE THE WORDS "A Novel".

THE AUTHOR'S NAME SHOULD BE SMALLER THAN THE BOOK TITLE. AFTER ALL, WHO THE HECK HAS EVER HEARD OF THIS AUTHOR? HENCE, THE AUTHOR IS NOT THE "SELLING POINT" HERE. THE TITLE IS, ALONG WITH THE CHARITABLE NATURE OF THIS BOOK PROJECT.

Here’s what we envision: A white figurine of a young law student with a back pack over his shoulder. HE WILL BE OUTSIDE A LAW SCHOOL BUILDING WITH STEEP CEMENT STAIRS AND COLUMNS AROUND HIM. HE COULD BE TENTATIVELY CLIMBING THE STAIRS, BUT HERE'S A NEW IDEA FOR ALL DESIGNERS TO TRY. INSTEAD OF SHOWING THE PERSON STANDING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS, SHOW THIS GUY, THIS WHITE FIGURINE, RUNNING DOWN THE STAIRS! . . . REALLY GETTIN' THE HELL OUT OF THIS LAW SCHOOL BUILDING, AS IF HE DOES NOT BELONG THERE. If there is any possible way to indicate confusion, trepidation, or fear in his face or person, we would love to see it.

IF POSSIBLE, WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE WORDS "SCHOOL OF LAW" ETCHED INTO THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING ABOVE THE COLUMNS. HOWEVER, THIS LETTERING SHOULD NOT BE PROMINENT. IT SHOULD BE SUBTLE.

WE RECOMMEND THAT ALL DESIGNERS VIEW THE ART WE SUBMITTED OF THE JOHN GRISHAM NOVEL BOOK COVERS, ESPECIALLY THE 3RD PHOTO ON OUR LIST, WHICH IS THE COVER OF GRISHAM'S BOOK, "THE PARTNER". THE PARTNER COVER SHOWS WHAT WE MEAN BY A FIGURINE . . . NOT A REAL PERSON'S PHOTO, MORE OF JUST A BLACK, SHADOWY FIGURE. THESE COVERS PROVIDE A REFERENCE POINT FOR THE TONE AND MOOD WE SEEK. OBVIOUSLY, WE CAN'T AND DO NOT WISH TO COPY ANYTHING OFF THESE COVERS, HOWEVER, THEY ARE EXCELLENT EXAMPLES OF EFFECTIVE COVERS FOR "LEGAL THRILLERS" AND "LAWYER NOVELS".

There is "book jacket copy" for the back cover, and it is attached. However, we need to know how much of the space it will consume. May or may not have an author photo to submit . . . there may not be sufficient room on the back for it.

The front cover requires the following: "Your purchase benefits the Alabama tornado relief effort and OrphansNoMore II, an orphan assistance charity." THIS LANGUAGE SHOULD BE IN WHITE LETTERING.

By the way, although not supplying a logo for the spine, etc, I do want the name of the press, OrphansNoMore Press, printed ON THE SPINE AND BACK, using "MV Boli" font. If you wish to take a shot at designing the logo for an orphan charity’s press division, please let us know.

Further requirements

General description of the novel: A legal thriller/mystery blended with a coming of age story about a gifted, yet naive first-year law student, all set in and around a law school. Although LAW SCHOOL contains the action and mystery of similar novels, it adds an element of protagonist personal discovery and growth. (To solve the mystery and achieve some justice, he must realize who he is, and then be who he is to the max.) There's are also strong elements of humor and realism.

Target market of the novel: LAW SCHOOL will appeal to mystery and "lawyer novel" lovers, primarily between the ages of 20 and 55, and anyone who also enjoys novels with a psychological element and/or a measure of depth. Fans of "Southern Novels" will also appreciate it, likewise for anyone working in the legal profession or curious about same.

The photos are included for reference purposes. We're looking for an image with a daunting view and vantage point.
