Canvas is a cloud-based software service that enables businesses to replace expensive and inefficient paper forms with powerful apps on their smartphones and tablets. Canvas enables users to collect information using mobile devices, share that information and easily integrate with existing backend systems. Canvas also offers the first business-only application store of its kind, with 16,000+ pre-built, fully customizable apps that work on all mobile platforms and serve 30+ vertical markets. Every Canvas app is customizable by the end user and can incorporate functionality such as GPS, image capture, dispatch, barcode scanning, electronic signatures, push notifications and access to business data such as parts catalogs, price lists and patient records. To date, Canvas has automated millions of manual processes and replaced over 30 tons of paper for businesses, making it one of the fastest growing mobile app services in the world.
What's your vision?
We’re looking for a brand new vision for our display advertising campaign. We currently have a “house style” that has been used for most of our ads, and although it’s effective, we want to really branch out and try some seriously new ideas to communicate who we are, what we do, and why businesses should check us out. We have very few limitations we would want to put on the design of this new round of ads - it’s not critical to us that our current visual style of ads is maintained - what we’re looking for is clever new ways to get people’s attention with our display advertising. Fundamentally Canvas has a somewhat easy marketing message tied to a somewhat more complex app platform - the message part itself is at least potentially powerful and simple. We help companies go paperless - as a company we’re trying to help companies switch from paperwork-based workflows to paperless ones, using mobile and tablet apps to operate quicker and more efficiently, and to then use those mobile forms and the data collected to have better insights into their business and customers. I’ve attached a number of examples of some of our current top performing banner ads, to give you an idea of our marketing message and current visual style. From a visual standpoint, we’ve found that the idea of paper going away (i.e. in the burning paperwork imagery) is especially strong - it’s been a key visual cue and shorthand to explain what we do. For this design contest, we’re definitely willing to consider both new takes on our existing message, as well as more radical new ideas and attempts to communicate what Canvas does. So if you can come up with some really clever and visually new and interesting ads with burning paperwork, that’s fine, and if you can come up with a completely new idea that will grab people, we’re open to that too. From a details standpoint - we’d like these banner ads to be available/workable in the key standard IAB ad sizes (particularly interested in 728x90, 300x250 and 160x600). We’d like the designs to leave open space for text - the messaging in the example banner ads attached should give a general sense of what we’re looking for here - we don’t need to put a ton of text in these ads, but we want enough open space to be able to plug in a variety of messages. Ideally these ads could be used for more specific messaging centered around specific features or capabilities of Canvas. Essentially, we’d like to make sure that any final design leaves room for a decent amount of text, whether it’s a short message (“Kiss Your Paperwork Goodbye!”) or a longer message (“Try the World’s #1 Business App Platform”. “Take Back Your Time with Mobile Apps. Collect data quickly and easily with the industry standard in mobile data collection. Never lose another form again."). And should have room for a call to action button, where the text may also vary (“Try it Free” or “Learn More”, etc). For this contest, we’re mainly looking at general branding ads - ads designed to communicate the main Canvas product and get people to take a look at us
For this contest we’re hoping to find a designer to work with on subsequent ad designs as well - we’re planning to make a heavier push on retargeting, and would ideally work with a designer who could do variations of these ads focused on more specific areas of functionality we may want to highlight (i.e. mobile payments processing, GPS location tracking, collecting digital signatures, etc).
