What's your vision?
Create book cover for new contemporary fiction novel by Gregory G. Allen called COOL SIDE OF THE PILLOW In need of an eBook cover at first, but book will eventually go to print and will need back/spine where text can be laid out on it Must abide by Amazon rules for eBook covers: Requirements for the size of your cover art have an ideal height/width ration of 1.6, this means: • A minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side • For best quality, your image would be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side • Use color images when possible using RGB (red, green, blue) color mode. Book Title & Author name must appear on front cover "Cool Side of the Pillow" synopsis: Zachery Kleinmann lives in the elite world of New Canaan, Connecticut and has left his accounting job four years earlier to be a modern stay-at-home father. But as his son is starting preschool, his wife is passionately involved in her own career, and Zach is knocking on forty years old, he begins to wonder how he will find his own serenity and define himself moving forward. Enter Ginger Charman, an eccentric, free living children's theater actress who has dedicated her life to bringing joy to children and keeping all those around her young at heart. As Zach is pulled into her world and discovers secrets about his new friend, he is not sure he'll ever be able to leave the rabbit hole once he has fallen through - or if he'll even want to venture outside of it again. Themes: a father in search of his identity, Male/female friendships, A man teetering on the edge of major changes in his life while juggling marriage, fatherhood and his need for a job. But he gets pulled into a world that he knows nothing about and is very intrigued by this non-conventional lifestyle. (One reader said it was Kramer-vs-Kramer mixed with Grey Gardens) Really, we want a designer to be creative and feel free to come up with their own image. Allen's last book cover was: http://gregory-g-allen.com/Patchwork_Of_Me.html His first novel was: http://gregory-g-allen.com/Well_With_My_Soul.html When book goes to print, it will be: 5.5 x 8.5 soft cover
Thoughts: We want a cover that grabs the attention of a reader, but is not simply a man on a pillow. 'Cool Side of The Pillow' refers to a man looking for something calming in his life, but what he finds is anything but that. The protagonist is a 39 year old average dad - tall and lanky. The older woman is in her 60s and is short, pixie-like (think Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby time frame) and very childlike. Son is 4/5 years old. (Not saying any of these need to appear on the cover: just giving information.) We've thought of images such as: 1) A rabbit hole (could be looking from inside) as the protagonist has fallen into it when he meets the older eccentric woman who is heavy into children's theater and she is also a little off-kilter dealing with psychological issues. If a designer wants to put a pillow in it - perhaps it is that of pillows (feathers) flying past inside the giant hole. 2) A man on a tight rope juggling his 'life' (career/wife/son) and there could be a pillow to soften his fall below. This could all be on a stage (to get in the theater aspect) 3) A snap snot of collection of photos from this man's life: ie - one of dad holding hand of a little boy, the streets of New Canaan, CT, Alice in Wonderland....but all are overlaid on a table as 'the reader' is looking at them as if looking at one's life to make a decision. 4) What "Cool Pillow" means to you as a designer - but remember: the protagonist is in turmoil and LOOKING for that calming part of his life. Be creative! Grab a theme and go with it. Think of how novels evoke an emotional response with their covers and use that in your design. Make it strong and something that would cause a reader to stop and want to read what the book was about. Thanks!
