We author and publish books. Our target audience is fiction book enthusiasts.
What's your vision?
This book is targeted to male/female readers who are ages 40+ from the United States. We are looking for a book cover design (front and back) for a dramatic thriller/mystery novel. The climactic scene in the book takes place in a northern Michigan lake setting. It was a stormy evening creating white-capped waters on the lake. There is a local tavern on the shoreline next to a dock that extends into the lake with a small road leading to a boat launch. We would like to illustrate this scene (white-capped waters, road to boat launch, dock, tavern, Northern-Michigan foliage) on a book cover. The illustration should elicit a haunting, unsettling and ominous feeling to the reader. We have provided a sketch to give designers a conceptual framework of what we're looking to achieve. The illustration should be from the perspective of being in the middle of the water looking towards the shoreline where there is a tavern, a gravel road to a boat launch area, a dock extending into the water, white-caps in the water, Michigan foliage (e.g. trees) in the background and the skyline above in the evening. The cover should also incorporate the title "BISHOP" in all caps, and the author's name "William R Berryman". We have provided a very rough sketch to help visualize this perspective. The cover design files should be set up to support print runs of the book. But we also intend to use the same design for digital copies. It is also important to us that the design looks good as a thumbnail image (i.e. clear and easy to read title) so that we can properly market the book in the Apple / Amazon book stores. We would appreciate designers showing us a full book cover and a thumbnail when they submit, so that we may consider how it scales up/down. Designers can take freedom in determining how to represent the stormy conditions (e.g. lightning, rain, high wind, etc.). We are not specific to a font type for the title or a color scheme. We are also uncertain what the back cover of the book should look like - we have ideas like wrapping an illustration that wraps from the front of the book (lake scene) or a farmhouse scene in an up north remote Michigan setting.
Yes, we know that our sketch looks like a child's drawing :) That's why we are here on this site getting help
