Accounting & Financial
I am a Certified Financial Planner and Certified Management Accountant with 30 years of experience. I see myself as a financial "coach," dedicated to teaching people how money works, which helps my clients see those factors that keep them from achieving their financial goals. In 2010, I published my first book, _The Greatest Enemy is You_. That book provides advice on how to save for a comfortable retirement, what kinds of small business ventures my clients should pursue or avoid, and how to take control of their taxes. The overall purpose of my book, and of my business, is to help individuals achieve a dignified retirement and build a secure financial legacy for their children and their families. My services are designed to fit the unique personal and professional needs of small business owners and entrepreneurs, from accounting, taxation, business advisory to financial planning.
What's your vision?
I am looking for a cover design for my new book, titled "Wake-Up Call: Understand Why You Struggle Financially and What You Can Do About It." The purpose of the book is to call attention to the "external" and "internal" factors challenging individuals in today's, frequently dire, economic milieu. Part One of the book turns a critical eye towards the 'external'/ 'outside' factors that individuals can't really control, but must be made aware of in order to understand the broader context in which their financial decision-making takes shape. Part One deals with topics such as the US housing crisis; the positives and negatives of Globalization; how geography affects the financial behaviour of certain regions/countries; government's impact on the economy; and the misbehaviour of big banks. In essence, Part One focuses on the "big" macro-economic issues that helped cause, and make worse, the current economic recession (2006-2012). Part Two deals with "internal" factors that clients need to understand about their own behaviour, which could adversely affect their financial decision-making. Part Two includes discussions of how certain personality types affect financial wealth; the influence of culture on financial behaviour (ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality, etc); and how the brain works when it makes decisions related to money, (including self-deception, fear and greed, psychological biases, etc.). Throughout Part Two, I offer my readers advice on how to avoid the worst mistakes that they could make, and offer a kind of "manifesto" for effective investing, how to protect your personal finances, and so on. I have two basic suggestions for how I would like the cover of this project designed. These are suggestions; the designer should feel free to use them as guidelines, but I'm open to other design choices. First, the colour scheme might incorporate red (for its associations with warnings, etc. Perhaps "Stop-sign" red). Second, I would like the cover image to refer to the title in some way (Wake-Up Call). It could, say, incorporate an alarm clock; perhaps one of those old alarm clocks with the external bells. I've attached some examples of these below. I've also attached a personal photograph that I would like to be used on the back of the cover. The cover should include the title and subtitle as well as my name. Font, title placement, placement/size of images and other design elements are up to the designer.
