NECROMANCERS' PRIDE Book Cover Description
We are looking for a dynamic, original book cover for our new epic fantasy novel. It is the first in a series, and as such, we want a simple, powerful design that can be carried from book to book, with only the title and main background color changing. A brilliant example of this would be Deborah Geary's book covers in her 'A Modern Witch' series. Each book in that series has the same image gracing the cover, but with a different color. That is the feel for which we seek.
We have attached pictures of that series for reference.
The color of the cover needs to be BRIGHT: blue or red or green or yellow or gold or bronze or silver or white, etc. One main color that is strong and visceral. It would be great if the color could convey the GLOW of MAGICAL ENERGY!!
Also, we would like the cover to have a textured sort of feel. We have attached several reference pictures of book cover texture to engage your creativity.
Again, the most important thing is that the cover POPS! THE COLOR NEEDS TO BE BRIGHT!
Attached you will find an image with the basic layout of where we would like the words positioned. Basically, we want the title: NECROMANCERS' PRIDE QUEST FOR ELDERSTONE to come on the top portion of the cover, with our names: Charles D. Carpenter & D.W. Jones to appear on the bottom. In the central portion of the cover, we would like to see a ghostly image of our female protagonist's face looking out at us. It should appear where the words: 'ARTWORK HERE PLEASE' are written on the attached picture. Thank you.
Perhaps it is that our female protagonist is looking slightly to the left, as if her eyes were drawn to the spine of the book. Either that, or she is looking directly forward. Her description is very important, as she has a unique look that is referred to often in the novel, and is as follows:
Velladriana is Caucasian with PALE skin and ICE-BLUE EYES. She is beautiful. Her hair is long and is JET BLACK. IMPORTANT: The right front quarter of her head is shaved, the hair on the left side is long and worn in a braid that is looped back upon itself and attaches where it begins, forming what looks like a loop or handle that one can grab and yank. This is her slave loop. The slave traders would grab it and use it to pull her around. She is VERY conscious of this, and as such, always wears her hood or cowl pulled over her head, hiding it as best she can. It would be great if we could read some of those hair features peeking out from beneath the hood.
We have attached some pictures of the bald cut for reference.
Velladriana's ghostly image can have some color in it, especially to accentuate her ICE-BLUE eyes. We are excited to see your creativity in this! We have attached a picture of what we want Velladriana's face to look like. The lady pictured has the wrong eye color and her skin is too tan, but that is the face we are going for. Again, please refer to the description above.
My placement of the title in the attachment is just for the location of the words. Please use your creativity to bring the title to life in terms of font and the conveyance of a sense of mysticism.
We have attached some images of fonts that we like. Please use them as references, but feel free to utilize your own fonts in this vein.
The words: Necromancers' Pride should be the larges and most dramatic in terms of font size, while Quest For Elderstone should be smaller than the words Necromancers' Pride. (Again, please refer to the attached picture for specific placement.) The placement of the apostrophe goes after the S in Necromancers'. It does not go between the R and the S.
We would like for our names to appear in a different font from that used for the title, i.e. a classic font.
The spine and cover need to be done, as well. We wold like to see a symbol on the back cover that conveys the image of Necromantic power. Necromancers are sorcerers who can control the dead and the powers of death. This image is something else we will carry from book to book, and as such, needs to be an ORIGINAL DESIGN the will belong to us upon completion of this contest. It needs to b a design that could conceivably become a pendant or sort of amulet. We are leaning on your creativity for this. Please create original images that convey mysticism and sorcery to you for this back cover image. This symbol will also go on the spine of the book.
Thank you in advance for your creativity. We really look forward to seeing your artistry first hand.
