White Collar Pajamas is a book designed to introduce you to the concept of freelancing, how to build a successful freelance career and how to pursue the principles and techniques that freelancers use to successfully adapt their careers to the new Future of Work - a future that demands us to become fiercely and increasingly independent. Themes of the book include: - Freelancing - The Future of Work - Creativity - Work-life balance
What's your vision?
I have a fairly strong idea of the kind of theme I had in mind for the cover. Principally, since the book is about freelancing as an enabler to live and work on your own terms (a stark contrast to traditional employment) I liked the idea of 'suiting up' in your pajamas, as opposed to you know, an actual suit. I had mocked up something quite simple on the link below for your reference of what I mean by this. http://unbouncepages.com/white-collar-pajamas-sample/ Other notes: - I don't want to use a photo, an illustration would be ideal - I'm a fan of minimalism - I like the idea of a bright background
I've ripped the following straight from the 'about' section of the book for further context around the intended market: There are many books about freelancing and how to freelance, though most have been written with an emphasis on the tactics of running a solo business day to day. Some tactics will be shared in this book too, but depending on what profession or industry you work in, you will find that the specifics can often vary dramatically. Instead, this book is predominantly focuses on freelancing strategies you can apply anywhere, any time and in any profession. Why the Future of Work? It’s no secret that unprecedented changes are coming to the modern workplace. Whether we like it or not it needs to come. These changes, mostly technological, social and cultural are subtle, complex and fast moving and just acknowledging it can be intimidating. In this book, I attempt to address questions such as: • How will today’s workers remain competitive tomorrow? • How will our actions change the way organisations work and not the other way around? • How do we build trust with those we work with in an increasingly flexible and remote workforce? • How will future trends impact the everyday choices we make and skills we choose develop throughout our careers? • How can I make the Future of Work, work for me? Interestingly as you'll find throughout this book, the answers to these questions share a commonality with what successful freelancers have known all along; we need to become professionally independent. Who this book is definitely for: First and foremost, this book is for freelancers of all kinds, existing, transitioning or aspiring. The lessons in this book, whilst targeted to more towards creative, digital and white-collar professionals, can be equally applied in other industries or fields where freelancing, independent consulting a similar kind of personal contracting is possible. Whilst its likely the details of their application will differ from one profession to another, I am adamant that many of the principles this book aims to teach will prove to be valuable for any solopreneur. For aspiring freelancers, I hope the lessons of this book equip you with the knowledge and tools to encourage action and persuade you to consider freelancing as a viable and empowering career choice. For new or transitioning freelancers, I hope that reading this book will help help reinforce your decision to go freelance, mitigate your risks, offer solutions to your immediate freelancing pressures and demonstrate a pathway to move toward a more sustainable freelance career. For more established and experienced freelancers, I hope that this book identifies key areas of your freelancing career that can be improved upon and presents you with the strategies and principles that help you evolve and thrive in the Future of Work. Who this book might be for: For organizational employees interested in being competitive in the future workplace could learn a lot from this book just by understanding how the world’s best freelancers do what they do best. The skills freelancers develop are akin to those required in the modern workplace, and the companies are going above and beyond to find candidates with the right mix. Employees who are tired, overworked and disengaged from their existing corporate roles may also find parts of this book to be useful. Working 70 hours a week on uninteresting, non-impactful tasks is a waste of the three scarcest things one could attain: our time, talent and creative energy. Freelancing presents a solution to reclaiming all three and this book will show you why freelancing is not only a valuable career move, but in many cases a necessary one. Who this book is not for: This book is not for those who are currently employed and feel secure and comfortable about their future of their job. If you feel secure, you’re either an anomaly in the system that genuinely is secure or you’re deluding yourself. ‘Job security’ goes as far as your ability to adjust with the times and maintain demand for your personal and unique value. If you’re not doing anything to consciously cultivate that, you may be in for an unfortunate surprise. This book is also not for those looking for those looking for the easiest or shortest route to a minimal workweek. If you’re doing right, eventually your freelance career won’t even feel like ‘work’ in the traditional sense. Your passion, your mastery and your employment will be fundamentally one.
