Entertainment & The Arts
I write books, primary in the fantasy genre.
What's your vision?
I am looking for a book cover design for a fantasy/suspense novel that will work as both an e-book cover as well as a Createspace cover. Here is what I envision: The title is “Band of Six: Demons”. “Band of Six” is the series name and should be smaller and slightly less prominent than the “Demons” portion of the title. The author’s name is “Brett Kelberry”. I do not have a preference as to where the title and the author’s name appear in the layout. As stated above, the thematic elements of this book are fantasy and suspense. I would hope that the cover conveys both of those feelings somehow. I am a fan of simpler/clearer covers – something that looks clean as a thumbnail and not too busy. I would prefer not to have “people” on the cover as I like to let my readers envision the characters for themselves – but can be swayed off of this preference if you’ve got a great idea otherwise. For the main image, I would like to see an old, weathered, broken three-tier stone fountain that is clouding the air with a dense mist. The fountain is set in a clearing, so the immediate area would be unobstructed, but trees could be visible in the near distance. Within the mist is the darkened silhouette (or partial silhouette, maybe a side profile?) of the demon the protagonists are hunting. It is completely pitch-black, a head-taller than the average man with large, broad shoulders, longer-than-natural arms and long fingers that eventually become needle sharp points. The demon has no face (imagine a black cloth being placed over someone’s face – you can still see impressions for the eye-sockets and a bump for the nose, but no features). I am hoping that the demon is the prominent, central aspect to the image and that it can convey a menacing feeling. I am open to your expertise in terms of color scheme. For the back cover, I would like to keep things simple. I would like some sort of symbol to represent the Band of Six – so think something vaguely circular with six distinct segments. The symbol is not described or mentioned specifically in the book, so you’d have a lot of creative freedom there. The text for the back of the book should read as follows: “A demon has escaped from Oblivion. A Band of Six is called – six individuals, strangers, compelled to abandon everything to confront the monster. Six unlikely people; none of them heroes. A scientist and a thief, a nobleman’s daughter and an empath, a murderer and a girl who feels no pain. They must unite – become as one – if any are to survive.” If you have any follow-up questions on anything let me know – I’d be happy to go into more depth or provide other aspects you might be curious about. Size dimensions for the Createspace: 438 pages, 6 x 9 in, on white paper. The spine will be roughly .986” by their calculation. Deliverables: • Sized PDF image for e-book cover • PDF image (front, spine & back cover) for CreateSpace, • Small, high-resolution, black/white/gray-scale version of the “Band” symbol for use inside the book • Original Photoshop file(s) in case the text needs to be updated. • All art needs to be original. I would also like to give you credit for your artwork, and would ask the winner to provide a website or email address to promote themselves if they desire.
