karin L got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Create a book cover for "Sensitive and Thriving" giving parents inspiration and hope
Check out karin L's Book cover contest…
I wrote this book for three reasons: 1. To give parents whose children are experiencing health and behaviour issues (and on drugs) HOPE and show them that their child does not have to be sick. They can heal and thrive. 2. To show people how I can help them. 3. People kept on asking for it. They love my story : ).
What's your vision?
Hi, my name is Karin Amali, I teach parents how to nurture their sensitive child to happiness and health, so they can thrive in today’s world. Thank you for considering designing the book cover. I need a cover for my book ‘Sensitive and Thriving’. It will be published in hardcopy 5.5in x 8.5in (14cm x 22cm) and as an ebook. I’m looking for something that has a sensitive feel, so the images you use need to have a natural soft feeling about them and also a thriving and alive feel. You could use images related to the beach, Australian trees or bush, sunrise and nature as I refer in the book to the importance of being in nature; and how it helped my family and I heal. You could use the back of a woman and two sons out in nature. If coloured photo - woman’s hair needs to be dark brown; children’s hair blond or light brown. Under 11 years old. You could use the ‘diagnosis’ words. They need to be in the background and give the feel that they are fading. Here are some diagnosis words: ADHD Learning-Disabilities Depression Hyperactive Sinusitis Egg-Allergy Anaphylaxis hayfever PMS Aspergers Behaviour issues Learning-difficulties Strong-willed Different Anaphylaxis Allergies Asthma Eczema Sleep Apnoea Sleep-Issues Digestive-Issues Anxiety Stressed Overwhelmed DO feel free to be very creative with what I listed above. The tone of the book is sensitive, inspirational, hopeful, caring, alive, vibrant and connecting.
Here is some information which may help you understand the book a little more: Key Words 1. Parenting 2. Depression 3. ADHD 4. Stress 5. Allergies 6. Aspergers 7. Wellbeing 8. Hope 9. Health 10. Struggling 11. Family 12. Thriving Author Biography Karin was a corporate ‘supermum’. At home there were major health issues–depression; ADHD; analphylaxis and more. Driven by “I just want my family to be happy and healthy” Karin discovered the causes of her family’s health issues and healed them. She now shares these solutions with parents as a speaker, coach and author. Back Cover Copy Karin begins her parenting life as a ‘supermum’ – running a business and a family. On the face of it she is smiling but underneath the mask there are major problems – she has depression and her two sons have been diagnosed with ADHD, Aspergers, learning and behaviour issues, anaphylaxis, allergies, asthma, eczema, and sleep apnoea. Karin then experiences a ‘break-down’ and realises something has to change. She visits doctors and specialists, and they offer no real solutions other than drugs; so Karin embarks on a journey to discover the causes of her health issues and how they can be healed. Karin’s motto was, “I just want my family to be happy and healthy.” As well as Karin’s personal story, the book includes practical tips and solutions on how to raise a family. Rather than definitive health rules and guidelines, this book provides a gentle reminder that we already have everything we need to heal and find happiness and health.

My design was for 'an emotional, standout poetry book cover' and the designs Rebekka created really hit the mark. They are also stunning and intelligently put together. Rebekka is a fantastic, perceptive designer who has great talent as well as an incredible work ethic. She is super responsive, and super patient for someone who is newbie author. I would work with her again - and again! Thank you. You are a superstar.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
