Ron Schwab is the author of the popular Western series, The Law Wranglers, The Coyote Saga, The Blood Hounds, and The Lockes, as well as several standalone novels, including Grit, Cut Nose, and Old Dogs
"Coldsmith" is the story of Rance Coldsmith, a cow rancher and deputy sheriff in the Nebraska Sandhills in 1877. There is romance and adventure (manhunts and gunfights), as the ranchers are all attempting to accumulate more land from each other, either lawfully or by criminal means.
The book is a Western. Both genders would read the book. Probably older readers, but any age and gender potentially.
Book cover type
I am open to different ideas, but here's what I'm envisioning right now for the cover: Setting: Nebraska Sandhills, 1877 (https://www.shutterstock.com/search/nebraska+sandhills) Scene: Rance (main character) on horse, overlooking cattle grazing in the Sandhills. His dog, Tag, a calico Australian Shepherd, could be standing beside the horse. (https://www.shutterstock.com/search/australian+shepherd) Description of Rance: 6' 4", lanky, wide-brimmed Plainsman hat, steel-gray eyes, short-cropped sandy hair Perhaps there could be a rifle in a scabbard hanging from the horse's saddle. If possible, the cattle should be the Hereford breed. (https://www.shutterstock.com/search/hereford+cattle) Please look at the attached book covers of a few of the author's other books or the author's website (www.ronschwabbooks.com) to understand the "vibe" of the Western genre.
What to avoid
I'm okay with stock imagery, but if used they should be blended into the scenery well and appropriate for the era and genre of the book.
