We want a cover for a book titled THE RELUCTANT PHARMACOPEIA. It is a science nonfiction book about the history of mankind’s search for new medicines. The book describes how incredibly difficult it is to find new medicine, because drug hunting is entirely trial and error. It’s like searching for a needle in a haystack, or searching for gold in the wilderness. Often, drug hunters test hundreds of thousands of compounds before finding a drug that works. There is an unexpected and improbable story behind the discovery of every drug.
We want the book cover to reflect the idea of THE INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT QUEST for medicine. It could convey a sense of searching for something very hard to find, or journeying into an unknown and intimidating place. It should also convey a sense of STORY or ADVENTURE.
We would prefer a cover that includes people, rather than something abstract. Illustrations are welcome.
Technical details: the final cover design should have a 1.6:1 height:width ratio (e.g., 1000 x 1600 pixels). The contest winner should provide us with the final cover in both a large, high-resolution version (e.g., 2000 x 3200 pixels) and a smaller, thumbnail version where the title is still easy to read (e.g., 200 x 320 pixels).
The design should include the title “The Reluctant Pharmacopeia.”
The design should include the subtitle “The Story of Drug Hunters and Their Improbable Quest for Medicine”
The design should include the authors’ names: Dr. Donald R. Kirsch and Dr. Ogi Ogas.
