For Want of a Rose
For Want of a Rose is a fantasy romance in which the protagonist finds herself stuck in the land of Elfame with only a single local guide to rely on.
Mostly women, mostly between 30-54.
The main imagery that I want to feature in the cover are (1) roses, and (2) something connoting winter. Overall, I see two possible approaches. The first is more abstract, based on the cover for The Vine Witch as a model. The second would be to do a landscape with a fantasy logo overlay, with the cover for The Stone Song as a model. I am open to both approaches, but my initial preference is for something styled after The Vine Witch. If you can really knock my socks off with the other approach, though, I'd be willing to go with that. For the more abstract cover based off of the approach from The Vine Witch, I would be looking for the various greenery around the border of the cover to be replaced by roses in some form or another. There would also need to be something to carry the connotation of winter: this could be winter clothing, or frost covering some of the surfaces, or anything else that makes one think of winter. If you choose to try using The Stone Song as a model, what I would want is some kind of winter wonderland sort of scenery, with a logo overlaid that clearly indicates you are looking at a fantasy series. Maybe a stylized rose, but I'm really open to anything creative here. The title font needs to strongly connote fantasy romance. The fonts from the example covers are good models. Basically, something a little bit ornate or stylishly handwritten, but still clear and easy to read.
What to avoid
Just to be clear, I do not want the type of romance cover that is built around a shirtless guy with nice abs.
It all began with a design brief.

From the moment I saw this design it grabbed me! He took everything that I had requested into consideration and nailed it. He was so quick to respond, and an absolute pleasure to work with. I'm sure that we will be collaborating again in the near future :)
