What's your vision?
Create book cover for new novel by Patrick Ord called THE CURTAIN - A NOVEL. In need of an eBook cover at first, but book will eventually go to print and will need back/spine where text can be laid out on it. I would also like to use the book art on the author blog. Must abide by Amazon rules for eBook covers: Requirements for the size of your cover art have an ideal height/width ration of 1.6, this means: • A minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side • For best quality, your image would be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side • Use color images when possible using RGB (red, green, blue) color mode. Book Title & Author name must appear on front cover. "The Curtain - A Novel" synopsis: Next generation companies don't just cater to existing markets, they create new ones -- and they pay Henry Maddox top dollar to show them how to do it. Maddox's proven strategies use market fragmentation, cross promotion, and conglomerate propagandizing to break apart large markets into separate, more profitable, consumption hungry, smaller ones. Once these historical tactics are combined with the modern day data collection (Big Data) that accompanies our current digital -- companies not only profit from consumers, they control them. The Curtain explores the effects that modern day manipulations have on our culture, communities, families, and individuals. In an age of digital distractions, who gives thought to the transcendent morality that has made past civilizations prosper? When corporations have the ability (technology) and the motive (massive profits) to pull people apart, what keeps us together? Read the Prologue of "The Curtain - A Novel" at http://henrymaddox.com/2012/12/10/prologue/ to get a feel for how the book opens. Themes: Virtue vs. Self Interest, Transcendent Morality vs. Propaganda, Community/Family vs. Money Interests, Morality of corporations to community vs. shareholder returns, etc.
I have uploaded a real photo of a traffic jam on the Golden Gate Bridge that I am currently using on the henrymaddox.com blog. The photo captures the drama of the Prologue (see: http://henrymaddox.com/2012/12/10/prologue/) and stimulates reader curiousity. The Golden Gate Bridge is the setting of the climax as well as the Prologue (although kept obscured in the prologue). Thus, artwork centering around the action conveyed in the Prologue (a shadowy figure of a man readying himself to jump off of the Golden Gate bridge or commotion on the Golden Gate Bridge around an event not depicted in the artwork) might create a compelling cover. The climax revisits the Prologue and illuminates the reader as to 1) who the man jumping off the bridge is, 2) what are his motivations, 3) what led to his desperate circumstance, and 4) what happens after he jumps. Given the information, designers should be free to come up with with their own image. I want a cover that grabs the attention of a potential reader. One that causes them to want to thumb through the book or read readers reviews (for an ebook) to learn more. "The Curtain" refers to the manipulations that corporations use to profit at the expense (as opposed to the benefit) of the consumer. Therefore, an image of a curtain with Henry Maddox or corporations behind it might also be considered with maybe another image of a man readying himself to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge in another frame. A catch phrase that might be worked into the artwork is: "Henry Maddox, all he wants is your data." The website henrymaddox.com also plays a prominent role in exposing corporate manipulations in the book so if there is a way to incorporate that url on the cover it might be nice but not necessary. Thanks for you interest!
