Need a Soft, Minimalistic Design to Represent the Planet of Venus (Poetry Book)
Check out anthony_saldivar3K's Book cover contest…
Anthony Calderon enjoys minimalism in writing, art, and expression, and loves the dark and abstract found in beauty and structure. He currently lives in Chicago where he is working on another poetry collection and a debut novel.
Venus is a debut poetry book that aims to encapsulate love, beauty, art, and sensation through imagery, texture, and lyricism. It chronologically follows the process of falling in love from a first-person male POV, with the narrator initially overcoming loss in order to heal, evolve, and ultimately find love again. With a heightened sense of self-awareness and observation of one's own actions and consequences, the narrative fluctuates between apathetic, dark tones, and emotionally driven prose that mirrors the oftentimes difficult process of opening up and becoming vulnerable. This poetry book is designed to elicit reflection and emotion within the reader, to touch upon the tangible and tactile, as well as the elusive ghosts of past love and personal growth. Its pages include, though hidden well, the substance and symbolism of our sister planet of love, Venus, the stark contrast of losing oneself and rediscovering oneself within the heart of another.
Anyone interested in poetry, though this book may appeal to a more female audience, aged 18 - 35 years old, based in USA, UK, Canada, India, and other countries.
Book cover type
I'm looking for something considerably minimal. The book itself can be all white. I'm open to all black designs if executed well. As mentioned earlier, I'd love the title to be spaced between letters (i.e. v e n u s) and the font doesn't need to be very large, something quiet and inviting. I am a fan of straight edges or geometric layout, but nothing too overbearing; the cover need not be saturated in shapes. In regards to the design that I'm going to upload, I'd like the "sphere" which represents the planet of Venus to be considerably small, but large enough that it can have a raised silver foil texture. I think that would be really cool, having mostly white with silver foil for the design and perhaps even the title. This can give it some texture, which I'm very fond of. The design I'm uploading is a PNG. file from a designer who drew by hand, so there are some imperfections within it. If there is anyone who has experience with Illustrator, I'd love if the design could be cleaned up with some added shadows for a 3D, spherical look. I'd like it to look somewhat like a planet; right now all I have is a flat mandala-looking design. The flower in its center represents Venus, so the design must stay, but if depth can be added, this would be such a plus. Dimensions for book would be 8x5.5in The mood I'm aiming for is modern, clean, loving, and aesthetically pleasing. Something simple, like how a finishing touch might feel. A gently wrapped gift. A subtle, artistic expression that begs to be unwrapped. Finally, in regards to color, I'm open to a small splash somewhere to contrast the black and white, warmer colors preferred, maybe a color closer to Venus (a soft sulfur?)
What to avoid
Large fonts, excessive color, making the planet/spherical design too large.
