The book “44 Virtues” is an inspirational, self-help book offering a global perspective.
What's your vision?
44 Virtues Book Cover Title: 44 Virtues Subtitle: A Guide for Global Transformation Author: Stephen R. Crilly I need a book cover, front and a “3-D” version showing the spine, appearing as a 6 x 9 softcover of about 250 pages. Will likely contract later for the back cover with the winner. The following are some of the thoughts that come to mind for me, but I am very open to suggestions that may differ widely. The theme should be elegant, but not feminine. I prefer to stay away from a “religious” look. However, I am considering that the title “44 Virtues” might be in gold (not yellow), stylized letters, readable as a thumbnail, but not too large, perhaps with a shiny gloss, preferably on a single line. Medium to small-sized border might be good, particularly if the background is white or off-white. If the background is a single color, a subtle pattern in it might be a plus. If the border has a pattern, that might be a plus, as long as not too busy looking. Subtitle “A Guide for Global Transformation” can be in another color, smaller font, more subtle, but still visible as a thumbnail; different font would be fine. Emphasis should be on the main title, rather than the subtitle. Author name at the bottom, not very large, but again, visible as a thumbnail. “Stephen R. Crilly” Prefer to stay away from black and dark tones, but not adverse to some dark blue if needed. Website currently has a blue theme, www.44Virtues.com, but header need not dictate the book cover. Prefer, though, that cover not clash with the website colors. Prefer not to use photographic images. If more is need to fill in open space, but will not look too busy, perhaps something can be derived from the concepts in the book. First half of the book is about using the 44 virtues for personal development. Second half is taking virtues to the global scale. The website www.44Virtues.com has the chapters and virtues listed. I prefer not to have any particular virtues on the cover. The current version of the book is on the download page. (The ebook will be given away for free. The book is presently with a book designer for formatting and interior design work. The website is still being updated. The introductory video will be changed.) Goal of the book is to help raise the “virtue level” of the planet from a current 6 to a 7 (on a scale of 1 to 10). The book introduction analogizes using Virtues to finding one’s way through a maze, but a maze on the cover would probably make it too busy and the subject matter appear too complex. I had considered a depiction of a maze using the list of 44 virtues, but again that would be too busy and complex. Perhaps a subtle pattern having the look of a maze can be used in the border or in a globe, if a globe is used. Prefer not to use a photographic image of the planet if a globe is incorporated into the design. The first half of the book has a memory aid for the reader to remember all 44 virtues under four headings: Health, Enlightened Wealth, Wisdom and Love. I think these might make the cover look too busy. However, if more is need, perhaps the 4 headings could go in a globe in a subtle way to make the globe appear to have depth or a rounded surface. Short maze with these four terms within a globe under the subtitle?
The ebook version will be entered in two categories of the 2013 IPPY Awards contest: Inspirational and Self Help. (Awards in May 2013.) http://www.independentpublisher.com/ipland/LearnMore.php
