Unearthly Talents Series - Book 1- Deception
Anke grew up in East Germany at the time of the cold war. The experience of a life in which one had to keep two faces in order to thrive in that society, exposed her to a life of secrets. This formed the basis for people on imaginary planet Thept. Working as a GP for the last twenty years, she’s come across many complex life stories. She delights in learning about the reasons people keep family secrets, also how those have a keen tendency to reveal themselves. Inspired by daily scientific discoveries (like making the internet visible, gene modification of our DNA) she loves speculating about Earth’s past and future and the effects those may have on love and relationships, in a simple and fun way. She creates stories for all those who haven’t lost hope, we’re not alone in this universe.
The Unearthly Talents Book 1/Deception is a suspenseful soft sci-fi romance and family mystery where a young woman tries to solve/research/understand her mother’s unusual death as she fears it is connected to her own unearthly talents.
Written for young/new adult readers

Don’t know yet
I'm not too sure whether to go for the dreamy sci-fi look or the more personal real-people-romance look as the book is both, hence have attached a few images below. I thought of three people as silhouettes in the background of a night scape with 2 different sized planets or real people and a the girl wearing a bee pendant.
What to avoid
no cartoonish look please
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their book cover.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.

And then… they selected a winner!
Didi was one of the first designers submitting a cover, which was great and amazing too. He responded to my alteration requests quickly and came up with improved versions. It was a pleasure working with him.
The only thing he could improve on is, to explain briefly, what he's changed on the updated designs, as the designs end up looking all very similar and subtle differences are hard to grasp for the untrained eye.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
