Entertainment & The Arts
Overview Singleton Council, in the heart of the NSW Hunter Valley, has identified the need for an annual large-scale winter event which incorporates music, food, local wines and breweries, ice skating and markets. The concept has been developed as a necessary action toward increasing tourism and economic development within Singleton. These components will form a weekend long celebration, with a “European Winter” theme. The focus of the event will be on an outdoor ice skating rink which will be set up and open to the public to use throughout the weekend. The other event components will be set up around this, with night markets, live roaming entertainment, a German Beer/Food Hall, and a large-scale music concert, to be held over the course of the weekend. The music concert will be held on one night within the weekend of activities, with the line-up of musicians made up of local, home-grown talent from around the Hunter, as well other bands across NSW, many of which have featured on Triple J, plus a big name music group. The style of music will be a mix of rock, folk and hip hop. Transport will be organised between Singleton and Newcastle, Port Stevens, and the Central Coast, increasing access to the event for those living outside of the town. There will also be the option of camping on site for those wishing to attend more than one day of the event. The Singleton Showground has been chosen as the event venue for its picturesque architecture and charming nature. The grounds of the venue are expansive, allowing for the incorporation of a large stage and audience area (approx. audience capacity 5,000 people), as well as room for the ice skating rink, day and night markets, food stalls, licensed bars, camping and parking space, Objectives The main objective of this event is to develop tourism and economic stimulation within Singleton, while meeting the cultural needs and improving the quality of life of the town’s population. The aim is to engage the local community as well as geographically peripheral communities within New South Wales by hosting an event which will promote and showcase the town of Singleton as a hub of cultural activity and excellent local produce. The concept of an ‘artificial’ European winter event, with the inclusion of snow machines, outdoor skating rink and night markets, is hoped to increase visitation to the town and identify Singleton as an ideal holiday destination. The music concert component of the weekend-long event will be produced specifically to incorporate and foster local talent in the heart of the Hunter Valley, while also delivering a popular headlining act, used as a drawcard for the event. In terms of the branding, we do not have any preconceived notions about what exactly we want it to look like – rather we are completely open to the artistic freedom from designers, as long as it represents the event effectively and addresses the objectives of the event. We foresee that this event will be held on an annual or biennial basis, and therefore the branding should have longevity, and the capacity to evolve over time, taking into account that different styles of music may be represented each year. I have attached photos of the venue we will be holding the event, if that provides some direction. Even though this is a winter event, we don’t want to the branding to be to “cold”.
