We seek an animation of a figure walking/running to be used in an iPhone application. We envision this person to be sketched as a line drawing or 3D animation – simple, not too detailed yet with character. Think like those who design icons - for example, the Olympic sporting events – a skier is represented only by few lines yet we recognize him as a “skier”. We think the drawing should be done in a 3D program (so view can be rotated for more options) BUT we do NOT want this to look like a typical cartoonish style 3D character. We hope the lighting will define the lines of this character – figure will not be textured or colored – we would like it defined by linework and lighting direction. The figure should convey the appearance of a fit human being yet stylized - NOT a realistic drawing. It should be in the proportion of a normal person - friendly, not scary or comical and not necessarily gender specific. The character will appear on a black background and we like the idea of green linework (think Matrix film). We also like the look of very flowing, organic lines – perhaps best done with a stylus pen – like lines of an old style nib pen where lines are of varying thickness – a line starts thin and as you press harder with the pen the line becomes thicker.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
iPhone user’s age - teenager to 50+
Fitness minded, intelligent, young in spirit, appeals to male or female.
Final size of this animated character will need to fit into a circle radius of about 1 inch (2.5 cm) as displayed on an iPhone with screen resolution of 163 ppi – please keep this in mind with your design – large amounts of detail will not hold up at this size.
Eventuall we will need one looped cycle (30 frames) of this animated character walking and another of running. Final output for each animation will be 30 .png files at 163 ppi. It may be beneficial to work at a higher resolution so final images may be adjusted in size to fit approximate size above.
For the purposes of this contest this may be a lot to ask so we would be happy to pay the winner for the design/drawing of the character only BUT keep in mind we will ultimately need an animation so the winning artist should be ablte to do this as well if possible and we will pay separately to animate. For this contest we expect a character designed (shown either walking or running) and a few variations in position - enough so we can get the idea of how it would look animated. Position character view to be lateral (side) but slightly frontal as well to have some dimension.
Note: This is only the first stage of our project. We would like to hire the artist/winner of this competition to do other animations in a similar style for different activities such as driving (a car or motorcycle), skiing, cycling (road and mountain bikes), snowboarding, rollerblading etc in separate contracts as needed.
