CitizenKang.com is the url and we are *NOW* providing a logo
My client is a software developer who can appreciate good design. The purpose of this project is to create a personal website for him so that he can a) provide cool tutorials on things that relate to web technology, Wordpress theming, CSS, and application programming, b) raise his profile and credibility as a developer and c) distribute code he creates, such as WordPress themes and other stuff.
Domain Name - CitizenKang.com is the domain name. I'll tell any designer the developer's name if you private message me.
Look and Feel - Because we’re alluding to a classic movie made in 1941 (Citizen Kane), we’d like to use fonts and/or imagery from that time period (e.g., Rosie the Riveter, cover art from Ayn Rand novels, etc...).
An example of posters that have the late ‘30s / early ‘40s feel are on this site:
The target audience is the WordPress developer community as well as web developers / application programmers in general. Another target audience is colleagues who are marketers and designers. He has a fulltime job and freelances, and he is often called on to figure out tough problems. If it’s a solution to a problem that requires a bit of an explanation, his blog will serve as a repository of valuable nuggets.
He already has an open source product that has been downloaded 1000 times, and this site will be a place for coders to download the utility for free.
We are requesting the design of 3 pages:
1) the home page,
2) a sample blog post page, and
3) a sample download page.
NOTE: We're fine with you submitting a home page only initially, and then once we have a few designers seriously in the running, we'd request to see the sample blog page and download page. Also, we plan to implement cufon so please don’t limit yourself to web safe fonts for headlines. Note: our logo uses P22 typewrite or kyle regular for the tagline. Please use at least one of these in the site (your choice).
Please refer to the .doc file which contains the content for those 3 pages and a half dozen urls of sites we'd like to emulate for the layout of blog post and download page.
More generally, off-white is our preference for the main background color. Red, Orange and/or Green are colors that appeal to us, either as a single accent color or a combination. Our absolute favorite site that we'd like to emulate is:
We love the nod to newspapers (since Citizen Kane is about a newspaper mogul), the parchment colors, and the heavy use of typography as design elements. We also like the amount of color (i.e, sparing use of accent color).
Also, this one is good:
Not in the color scheme but the way it uses real estate, a non-browser font, and the header and footer are in line with what we were envisioning.
