I work for the Federal Aviation Administration in a job that consumes way too much time.
The domain name was inspired by Dragon Ball Z. I didn't intend to blog about work when I registered it. I was just going to run a simple personal blog and talk about a software project I was working on.
The reality though, is that I spend a large part of my time thinking about my job and the need for improvement. It's a big part of who I am, I guess.
It's dry material, no question. I don't expect a designer to make it interesting, just professional and clean.
I have a pretty good sense of humor, though it probably isn't apparent from the subject matter.
My co-workers primarily. I hope for a place where we can discuss and build consensus. Supervisors and developers are aware of the site, so it's definitely in my mind that I'm writing to an FAA crowd exclusively.
It's not for profit; I'm not trying to build a brand. Just need a clean and professional place to express opinions and address issues.
You can see from the existing site that I've chosen something simple. One big reason for that is that we still use IE6 at work.
EDIT: I found out the day after I posted the contest that IE 6 is finally going away! We will have IE 8, and I use Safari at home, so no worries.
The calendar widget is not necessary. I'm open to simple designs that make some of the most recent entries quickly available.
I have two logos that I have already purchased which can be seen on my site at the following address:
They do not have to be used. I realized after I bought them that I didn't know how to make them fit. I don't want to limit anyone if you have a better color scheme or text treatment in mind.
I should say at least something specific:
I would like the name Incredible Superpowers to appear in the heading, with the subtext of Life At an OCC. They might not go together, but I intend that the domain will remain, while the category of OCC may eventually be moved off the main page when I'm done ranting.
I'm not good with color schemes, so I don't have fixed ideas there. Readability is key to me.
I will make use of images, blockquotes occassionally, and sometimes use the 'pre' tags for code. I'm open to suggestions for best presentation.
Some of the blog designs I like are:
so basic; extremely readable. Not looking to clone this, I just admire it.
simple design and attractive menu
About the best overall design I've seen. Really nice looking to my eyes.
I'm not set on a color scheme. Light background or dark background. Doesn't matter as long as it is professional in appearance. I usually prefer something simple over something busy.
