Sarpedon Software got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Mac OS X Application Icon for Proxy Utility
Check out Sarpedon Software's Icon or button contest…
Develops Mac OS X based networking applications and utilities.
What's your vision?
We require an icon designed for a new utility application called 'Veneer'. The utility provides transparent proxy capabilities to all applications system-wide depending on a set of rules a user can manage. The utility allows for 'proxying' connections over SOCKS 4 & 5 / HTTPS Connect as well as SSHv2 (as well as chains of multiple proxies). Veneer is intended to hide the complexities of setting up different proxies for different situations while still providing users absolute control over their applications. The icon we require needs to look and feel like any other Mac OS X application icon. It must also adhere to Apple's icon design guidelines: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/userexperience/conceptual/applehiguidelines/IconsImages/IconsImages.html As this application is a utility it should convey a semi-serious tone and have a somewhat muted color palette (discretion applied for good designs with respect to color choices). Key areas that the icon should touch on include computer networking and to a lesser extent the redirection or 'proxying' of streams of information. In addition to the normal color icons of differing sizes and high resolution versions a simple black and white representative version is also needed for the system-wide menu bar (top right area where sound, wireless, date and Spotlight menu bar items are displayed). Styles of icons that we like include: http://www.git-tower.com http://panic.com/transmit/ http://panic.com/unison/ http://iconfactory.com/freeware/preview/agap
