What's your vision?
The father of Bookkeeping/Accounting was an italian mathematician, Luca Pacioli (Google image search). His first book on double-entry accounting was published in 1494. - Students are constantly terrorized by accounting jardons when they are acquainted with the subject of study. Jump Grades has been changing that since 2008. As part of translating the fun element to our students, we are looking to create a fun mascot of a merchant of Venice, "Luca" performing various business/accounting related activities to use design for our publications (accounting study guides) and website. Personality of "Luca": "Luca" is a friendly, enthusiastic merchant who came from the 1400s and unacquainted with the modern technologies of the accounting software and other computer conveniences. He is however, keenly curious and often found competent in explaining complex concepts to students. Luca is known for his wisdom, intellect, wit and at the same time, he is funny and a little overweight. Luca's look: We would like Luca to have a distinctive, iconic shape, which we can use at different resolutions and form factors, such as the web page, beginning of chapter pages, at places where we provide exam tips to students in study guides etc. It would be helpful to see him looking through a magnifying glass, using the calculator/abacus. Clothings would be that which the merchants of venice wears in the 1400s but carries a modern touch of accessories like sunglasses, smartphones etc. Color: Our company's primary colors are blue and orange. We are open to suggestions on the colors, his outfit (if any) and accessories can be of other colors of course. Graphics Style: Simple, bold, not too many lines. Something in line with mascots for college targeted apps, such as Yik Yak. Luca's primary role in Jump Grades' publication (web and print): Luca performs various business (accounting related) activities such as: - Counting stock (goods) - Recording depreciation (van, delivery truck) - Accounting for customers' bad debts - Writing receipts - Getting ideas (idea lightbulb) - Investigating tricky situation (carry a magnifying glass) - Counting money - Presenting financial results to investors (or to his wife) - Incomplete records (shock face) Up to 15 illustrations may be required for this project. For consideration, the submission requires only 3 illustration of Lucas. Reference Points: 1. SocialMediaExaminer's Scout Mascot - for the fun element. http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/ 2. The accounting study guide here contains illustrations of a modern merchant accounting for various business transactions - for an idea what kind of business activities Luca can be accounting for. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mlctidgqyl3bsar/AAC4eHNt3jjBsYNY2-dpq2ika?dl=0 3. A sense of the look and feel of the merchant is attached in the jpg below. Feel free to be creative about the look and style.
