Blind Willie sells guitar strings, lap guitar tone bars, retro picks and accessories. The primary market is lap guitars, resonators and weissenborns.
What's your vision?
Our Blind Willie is not a person; it is a persona. You're correct if our name conjures up an image of a poor black man, a sharecropper's son from back around the turn of the century (1899-1900) that was dealt the unfair card that is blindness. What was a man to do? Our Blind Willy turned to music. He picked up an old guitar and never let go. Some thought it was odd that he played the instrument on his lap instead of the more traditional Spanish method. That is, until they heard the soulful delta blues that he produced by sliding his glass Coricidin bottle across the strings. Willy wasn't really a showman. He spent most of his days sitting on the front porch of his family's run down shack, guitar on his lap and his faithful dog Bones at this side. Most days he wore the same uniform - old loosely fit jeans, a light blue faded shirt, and of course, his shades. Obviously Willie didn't need to watch his hands or the guitar strings as he played, so it wasn't unusual to see him with his head cocked back to the right a bit, "looking" off into the horizon with a subtle smile on his face. This man had found peace with his life and his contentment came across to everyone that was fortunate enough to meet him. Our company is preparing to launch a line of vintage-inspired accessories for the lap guitar market as our way of paying homage to Willie. But we need your help. We need both a logo and an illustration that we can use in our packaging and on our website. To help you better envision the right deliverables, I suggest that you assume that you are designing an package for a set of guitar strings. If you do a google image search for 'guitar strings packaging' you'll get the idea. There are two main approaches used in the industry - a box that's about 4"x4"x0.5" or a flat envelope that's about 4.5"x4.5" made of a heavy index stock. We prefer the flat envelope style. We envision Willie and Bones on the porch with Willie doing what Willie did best - wailing on his worn and weathered lap guitar. PS: The attached images are just to give you an idea of porches, clothes and guitars. Don't take anything too literally - I just wanted to get your juices flowing. You might also want to check out google images for sharecroppers, lap guitars and delta blues. PPS: I reread my design brief a minute ago and realized that it suggests that only designs with literal interpretations of a man in a chair on a porch with a dog would be considered. But I also appreciate more minimalistic or abstract designs that somehow get the point across. If you can pull that off, I'm very open to it.
I've use 99designs for a few other contests and understand how important it is to provide feedback and guidance as the contest progresses. I promise to do my best. Most of the contests I've run have resulted in subsequent contracts for the winner as embellishments and adaptations are needed to apply the branding to other products and projects. Let's have fun with this!

Creative, artistic and super fast - is how I would describe this designer! When I started this contest for a logo his designs were the leader and many tried to copy his creativity. Not only did he post many styles to choose from, he made small updates quickly and finalize the design within hours. We will be working together again on future projects. Quality person that includes great care in the design process... first rate!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
