'Premortal' is a fantasy fiction novel that will be released in the coming months. A book cover has been designed (though 99 designs) and now we are looking for a graphic image for each of the twelve main characters of the novel. This is the first of four competitions to design those twelve characters (three characters per competition). In this particular competition each of the three characters (described below) are to appear together on the same page as well as being provided individually as separate files. Each character is a spirit and is intangible in nature, but should look more human than ghostly. The contrast between light and darkness is an important theme of the book, with each hero being of a bright countenance and each villain of a dull or even dark countenance. The nature of the characters is such as might lend themselves to animated characters (but they don't have to be). Certainly there needs to be consistency such that if one character is animated then they all need to be (or if one character is not animated then none of them can be). An extract from the novel describing each of the three characters to be designed in this competition is: Michael (hero) Standing an inch under six feet tall with brown hair, brown eyes, a prominent nose and square chin, there was nothing abnormally striking about Michael's appearance, and none of the intruders were discerning enough to notice the brightness of his countenance. Although it was uncomfortable for them to look upon him directly for any length of time, putting two together was not their strong point. Accordingly the nature of the spirit they were dealing with remained hidden from them. Sarah (heroine) Sarah had a bright and beautiful countenance that highlighted her blue eyes, soft features and long brown hair. She was slim and stood five foot six inches. Lucifer (villain) Lucifer's first appearance in book is described as: He was of medium height with black hair and brown eyes. He had a sharp nose and a thin but prominent chin. While there was nothing particularly striking about his appearance there was something about him that did appear a little odd, furtive being the best description of the look of him. After a time he was further described as follows (please base his character sketch upon this second description): Although he looked furtive at their very first meeting, his countenance, though dimmed, was still white at that time. In a very short time that countenance had darkened somewhat to become grey in appearance. Though his hair remained unchanged, his already dark eyes appeared to have become darker, and were certainly far more frightening to look into for one who perceived even a portion of the evil contained within his soul. The regular expression on Lucifer's face had also changed so that his look was ever so slightly more brutal than it had been. It certainly took a discerning observer to note this about him, but Sarah had seen enough of this expression taking deeper shape upon his face to understand its origin. Though his face was already quite thin and sharp, it had become a little more pinched, as though his hunger for evil was having the same effect upon him as does a mortal hunger for food. The same could be said for his build. While he was already quite slight he had become just a touch slighter and his shoulders, which were previously quite square, had rounded slightly under the weight of a heavy conscience.
