PSI Team got their new infographic by running a design contest:
Infographic on unwanted phone books wanted for Product Stewardship Institute
Check out PSI Team's Infographic contest…
Story to tell in the infographic
The infographic should convey to the general public the social, environmental, and economic problems (e.g., waste of natural resources, an eyesore/nuisance, high recycling costs, privacy concerns, etc.) associated with the unwanted delivery of phone books. The infographic should also highlight the actions that consumers can take to address this problem, such as using opt-out services (e.g., Catalog Choice) and/or switching to online search resources. The presentation should tell the "story" of phone book production, transportation, use, and disposal/recycling in an easy-to-understand way, and the tone should be friendly and relatable. (For more information, please see the "Phone Book Infographic Project Description" document, attached.) The examples provided are infographics that we we found on the web and are intended to give you an idea of the type of design/overall product we are looking for.
Data to include in the infographic
See attached file, "data for phone book infographic".
Elements to include in the infographic
Specific elements to be included are, for the most part, at the creative discretion of the designer. However, we have seen other infographics (see attached examples) whose illustrations and content (simple graphs, charts, and visual representations of numerical data) we really like. The size of the infographic is up to you, but the format should be suitable for posting on websites, blogs, Facebook, etc. PSI's logo should be prominently displayed on a white background. The text, "Made possible through a grant from the Merck Family Fund" should be displayed (in small font) at the very bottom of the infographic. When designing the part of the infographic that tells consumers about opt-out solutions ("Catalog Choice" and "Yellow Pages Opt Out"), please be sure that these solutions are prominently featured, with Catalog Choice featured most prominently.
Please use your creative discretion in presenting the data in a way that cleverly and attractively tells the story of unwanted phone books. Nothing too wild/off-the-charts, though. We are a fairly conservative brand, although we don't mind being a little playful.
