The fund was established by Leon McKenzie, who attended Lansdowne Friends School from 1978 to 1984 and who is now President of Sure Sports Lending. He named the fund in honor of his father, a first generation immigrant from Jamaica who dedicated 30 years as an educator at academic institutions throughout Philadelphia.
Through this fund, in 2014, we are able to award (2) $2,500 tuition grants to elementary school students motivated to learn and lead who might not be able to otherwise attend. We also awarded (2) $2,500 award to a teacher, chosen by her peers. Sure Sports Lending will match 100% every donation made to the fund.

My name is Joleen and as Chairman of the Fund, I just had the opportunity to tour the school. I was particularly impressed with the focus on community, small classroom size and the diversity at the school. For the 2014/2015 school year, we chose our finalists based on submissions. I have attached one of the submissions below.
