St. Andrew's Anglican Church
St. Andrew's is an Anglican church that will come into being this autumn in the American city of Rome, Georgia. Our worship is liturgical and traditional, but with openness to some more contemporary music. We have a wide range of parishioners, but most are in their early 30s to late 40s. We worship in an historic church building in a depressed area of the city with a ethnically diverse population we aim to reach.
St. Andrew's aims to attract Christians of all ages and social status. Our city is a college town. We also have a large number of professionals. But we meet in a depressed, low-income part of town that is ethnically diverse. Because most of the worship opportunities locally are of the contemporary variety, our largely traditional and liturgical worship is a distinctive. That said, we aim to bring in those who might not have been exposed to liturgical worship in the past. A logo can communicate solid reliability and trustworthiness (distinguishing it from the myriad of contemporary logos out there that have a breezy feel). It can, as with our name, communicate a connection with that which is old and venerable--without being staid, stuffy, or overly formal.
We would like our logo to include a St. Andrew's cross (an 'X'). A rich red should be a predominant color (although we could be convinced otherwise). We need a logo that can be used on letterhead, business cards, web pages, and signage. We would like something simple and clean, that conveys the seriousness of our faith but the warmth of our welcome also.
We're not into clouds or hearts or dancing stick figures or sunsets or rainbows.
Other designs that could be included in addition to the St. Andrew's cross would be a Canterbury cross or a familiar Roman cross--although how those would be integrated isn't clear.
The name "St. Andrew's" should have greater prominence than "Anglican Church."
We need versions that can be used against light backgrounds and dark, and perhaps a horizontal "banner" version that could be used across a page as well. We need at least one version that includes "Rome, Georgia" under the church name in smaller letters.
A logo we very much like is that of another church plant in the area:
