Areté - for the Areté Academy of Exceptional Education (acronym A-squared E-squared ) Areté, in its basic sense, means "excellence of any kind". The term may also mean "moral virtue". In its earliest appearance in Greek, this notion of excellence was ultimately bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: the act of "living up to one's full potential". Also in geological terms, an arête is a thin, almost knife-like, ridge of rock which is typically formed when two glaciers erode parallel U-shaped valleys. The arête (different pronunciation and accent) is a thin ridge of rock that is left separating the two valleys. With this, we visualize our kids strengths and challenges coming together to rise to the Areté. Our kid's school needs high a level intellectual name that represents their giftedness as well as recognizes their challenges.

INTRO EMAIL FOR SCHOOL SENT BY FOUNDER (not me)
Hello Parents and 2e Supporters!
As all of you have heard my husband and I are in the planning stages of starting a school (Fall 2014) for students who are Twice Exceptional. The response and support has been astronomical!!!
If we have not met, here is some quick info about us:
5 kids ages 4-11: 3 girls and 2 boys (both boys 2e)
All our kids were born in Korea and joined our family through adoption
Rob is an attorney and works in a private business
Leah is a special educator/Speech/Language Pathologist/Diagnostician
We are still working through the details of the school such as location, cost, enrollment, etc. However, it will be a private, non profit tuition based school. I am hoping we can send out an Evite to an information meeting in the next few weeks. Before we officially announce the school publicly, some of you may be interested in coming to a preview and I would greatly appreciate your guidance and feedback.
Regarding tuition, we understand that financial constraints can be difficult for some families. Rob and I are making a substantial personal investment in the school as well as administrating the school ourselves without any salary in order to get the school up and running. We can assure you we will legally organize the school to best position families for tuition reimbursement opportunities and we will work hard in the future to try to provide some need based financial aid. Believe me, if we could provide this for free, we would. It is a substantial investment and undertaking to start and operate a school - and this school will be unique to the state of Minnesota, the Midwest generally, and in fact will be one of a handful of its type in the entire nation. We can promise you we will provide you an outstanding school that understands your child and will meet the unique needs of your child and will be worth every penny.
