Update (7/22/15): The class is about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is a muscle wasting disease that affects 1 out of 3000 boys. In this course, we are going to teach all of the genetic, biological, and medical perspectives on this disease. Students will also be reviewing all of the basic biology and genetics that they covered in their previous courses. Learning science through this manner makes it more applicable, more rewarding, and also makes learning much more effective. Is there a way we can feature more "biology" focused symbols and shapes? Also, can we get a more muscle focused look? We can include anything from the actual shapes of muscles to even microscope images of muscles (included in the attachments). The attached picture shows the the muscle sarcolemma being fluorescently labelled for imaging techniques. Basically, the green outlines shows us the fibers of a muscle. Some notes: -Please don't make the class logo look too "chemistry heavy" with chemical formulas and such. Although chemistry is touched upon a little bit in our course, it is heavily Biology/physiology focused. -no animals (Unless we use the Bruin Bear, which is the UCLA Mascot) -No capes (hero worship of these boys with muscular dystrophy is not encouraged because it places a lot of burden on these boys) -Please use UCLA Colors (found on the brand page) Original Description: We are creating a logo for our online class at UCLA. Physiological Sciences 121 is titled "Disease Mechanisms and Therapies." This class is the first of its kind, as we are teaching this class completely online. Lectures, office hours, and discussion sections will all be held via streaming websites. We are planning on flipping the class and making it far more interesting and engaging, because online education is often uninspired and boring. We're planning on filling it with lots of demos, activities, assignments, and forum discussions. This logo will be placed on every single slide in the corner. Thank you all!
