Update 5: Just to illustrate what I mean by needing the logo to work as a network identifier in podcast art, I'm attaching podcast art for the Ihnatko Almanac in the 5by5 network, and Topics from Earwolf. All 5by5 podcasts have their logo in the center bottom. Earwolf tends to place their logo near the bottom right. I'm also attaching art from one of my podcasts, Under the Comic Covers, in case you want to test it out with some of our actual art. Thank you!
Update 4: Looking over all the entries, I'm realizing I'm not liking the ones that have things like headphones, radio signals, and microphones. I guess because it's already obvious it's about podcasting from the name, so I want the logo to communicate other things (cool, fun, smart) as well as being a simple, easily identifiable brand. Sorry I didn't realize that sooner, but many of your designs brought it to the fore.
Update 3: I'm loving the lightning bolt art, liking the variations on the "play button," and would also appreciate seeing any other out-of-the-box ideas for this.
Update 2: In addition to standing on its own, this logo (or a version of it) will need to be a network identifier at the bottom of square podcast art for various shows on the network. Probably in the lower 20% or so of the square, so it doesn't obstruct the show art.
Update: I had an idea that might be a little crazy - to have the logo be either a head or a body being struck by lighting. Maybe in silhouette format, to keep it simple. Not sure if that would work, but I like the idea of it.
I chose the name Podcastica because it sounds kind of grand (like Battlestar Galactica, Metallica, erotica, cornucopia) and I really want to go big with this, but it's a bit tongue-in-cheek as well.
I like things that are simple, fun, and powerful.
Other things I like: edgy, cool, minimal, smart, wry
