The University Innovation Fellows are driving a national movement in higher education to ensure that their peers gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to compete in the economy of the future. The Fellows are leaders and change agents; they are undergraduate and graduate students in majors ranging from engineering and computer science to business to design.
At their schools, Fellows increase student engagement with entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity, design thinking and venture creation. They drive lasting change at their schools and work to help universities recognize students as co-designers of their education. Fellows have created design and maker spaces, founded clubs and organizations, hosted workshops, and worked with faculty to develop new courses.
The University Innovation Fellows program is an initiative of Epicenter, a National Science Foundation center that aims to transform U.S. engineering education by helping students learn an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset.
This is the University Innovation Fellows manifesto:
We believe students can change the world. Our ideas matter. Our efforts can make the difference. Our future depends on it. We believe it lies within all of us. We have the ability: to lead when leadership is required; to exercise humility when not; to collaborate with others on creative solutions; to adapt with our ever-changing environment; and to keep our love of continuous learning alive until our last breath. We are leading a movement across America to bring together engineers and designers, scientists and sociologists, STEM students and liberal artists. Together we will harness our creative potential, invent truly innovative solutions, hone our entrepreneurial mindset and bring our bold ideas to life. Our nation needs us. The time is now.
