UPDATE (6/18/19, 2:44 PM EDT)
Thanks for submitting additional designs per our updated brief. One idea that could be explored is a door with a rounded top (see upload). I've also uploaded an image showing the organization of black and white keys on the piano (black keys separated into groups of 2 and 3). Thanks for your great work!
UPDATE (6/17/19, 9:24 PM EDT)
We've enjoyed seeing the concepts the designers have created so far! Overall, we'd like to see a more organic, handdrawn feel in the graphics (see uploads as well as RecreoViral, Asalt & Battery logo samples). Many of the designs felt too modern and "hip." Our main genre is classical music. Our teaching space is a 100-year-old craftsman home with hardwood floors, an ebony grand piano, and a persian rug in bright colors. We want the design to represent this. We'd like designs to feel elegant, sleek, organic, without feeling pretentious or unapproachable. We'd also like to see integration of more colors than just black to accompany yellow. Thanks so much!
We are a married couple starting a joint piano studio. I specialize in teaching intermediate and advanced students (upper elementary through high school age) as well as adults interested in studying music for fun. My wife specializes in early childhood music and beginning piano (preschool through elementary). Because we serve a wide range of ages, we want our logo to be professional and sleek enough to appeal to more serious students, while also being approachable for younger students and those seeking to play music just for fun. Our main teaching emphasis is classical music.
Since we run our studio in our home, our slogan is “Yellow Door Music Studio: a home for music makers.” This embodies several of our core values. We want to enable students to make music a dynamic and joyful part of their lives, and in the lives of their family and community. We as people and as teachers believe in a warm and caring approach to teaching. We also hope to create intra-studio community that makes music-making a communal act. Our curriculum is designed around national and international standards for success at the piano. We hope to expose our students to a wide array of music-making.
We want our logo to feel warm, professional, and approachable. We do not want it to be cutesy or cartoony. Our logo will be the centerpiece of our visual branding, which will help set us apart from the average neighborhood teacher.
We will use the logo for a website, letterhead, invoices, contracts, business cards, social media, and potentially signage and apparel. We’d like the logo to include a visual icon that can stand alone in certain situations alongside the text of our studio name. We’d like the full name of our studio to be included, rather than focusing on “YD” or “YDMS.” Including the slogan is not a necessity.
Please avoid images of full keyboards and musical notes, unless you can be really subtle and clever about it. The piano should be clearly recognizable if you use a that image/shape.
In terms of color scheme, we want to build our logo around a rich yellow. But we don’t want the accompanying colors to make it look like a high school athletics team. We’ve considered including images/references to a yellow door or a piano.
