RetroMedia is an exciting new business looking for an equally exciting new logo. Our domain name is retromedia.com.au
We are experts in the digital conversion, restoration & preservation of all old formats of film, video, slides/photographics, and audio. Our service is equally for families & for businesses.
Our feeling is that while we are dealing with vintage formats at times, it would be a mistake to make the corporate image look too vintage.. Such as sepia, and old fashioned fonts etc. We deal on an ongoing basis with relatively recent formats that are continually being superseded & will continue to do so into the future, so we don't want to come across as too retro, too vintage..
For example, our vehicles will be New Beetles, or New Minis, or PT Cruisers - modern cars with a retro feel, rather than real old classic cars restored. Our store will be fitted out in modern style, but with accent pieces being retro in style.. We don't want to look like an antiques shop.
Our website will be modern, and up to the minute, but will acknowledge retro themes somehow.. This would be an area we'd need to work on to get the balance right.
But what we are really after first is a knockout logo. At this stage we're open on the question of colours.. For various reasons we plan to have our new site on a predominantly white background (think Apple), but also need to somehow feature retro styling cues..
Just as there is a danger in looking "too retro" we believe it would be crazy to ignore retro influences, and look thoroughly modern.
We come up with some ideas for logos.. I've added some for you to take a look at...they're OK and we could probably tweak them & live with it, but we'd love something that blew us away, that we loved.. That's why we've launched this contest.
The logo will feature on shop signage, business cards, brochures, vehicles, uniforms & website. It will also need to be printed on our DVDs, and to save ink costs & increase printing speeds, we'd like the DVD design to have at least 2/3rds white space. So that ties in with the hope to have a largely white website that manages to look exciting, not boring. And utterly professional. We believe it so important that the site is our other shop front, and the look sets the expectation of professionalism for the client.
But those are future design jobs.. I suppose what I'm getting at here is that our new logo will need to work on white.
I have usually featured a film reel in the designs I've mucked around with so far.. It's pretty universal, and film is a big part of what we do. An audio reel looks like a film reel, and video & audio cassettes have small reels of video in them.. So like I said it's pretty universal. But we're not married to the concept. We're looking for something that blows us away creatively, but is also easy to read on signage when driving past the store, or when our vehicles pass you on the street.
So if you've got another idea, by all means submit it..
So come on guys... think of this one as an opportunity to be creative, and really shine..
So we can shine..
