"A habitat for good books and the great outdoors."
NATURE BIRD DISCOVERY - A LOGO DESIGN CONTEST (SEE ATTACHED BIRD PICS) -- IMPORTANT: PLEASE SEE THE LIST OF WHAT NOT (NOT!) TO DO, FURTHER BELOW. TO SUCCEED YOU SHOULD VIEW AND CAREFULLY STUDY THE SHAPE AND COLOR DETAILS OF THE REQUIRED BIRD SPECIES (CHOOSE ONE SPECIES ONLY PER DESIGN ENTERED). THEY ARE PROVIDED IN THE ATTACHMENT(S) BELOW. . . . . . . MAKE YOUR CHOSEN SPECIES LOOKS RECOGNIZABLY LIKE ONE OF THESE BIRDS EVEN IN SILHOUETTE! (SEE DETAILS FURTHER BELOW.) WHAT YOU MUST INCLUDE IN YOUR DESIGN: 1) BE SURE TO PROVIDE BOTH COLOR AND B & W IN EACH ENTRY: you must include a color version and a black & white version beneath it (do not put your b&w in a separate entry or it will be eliminated!) All designs must work equally whether printed in color or black and white. 2) THUMBNAIL-SIZE REPRODUCIBILITY: ALL designs MUST work well at a tiny reproduction scale/size, e.g., thumbnail size (brownie points will be awarded if the words "Nature Bird" are still legible even at a tiny image size!) 3) YOU SHOULD INCLUDE/EMBODY THREE IDEAS THROUGH YOUR DESIGN: a) BOOKS (we will sell books and publish books); b) NATURE (we will promote nature activities, education and products c) BIRDS (choose one of three species allowed for this contest, and depict it in the logo -- see below) NATURE & BIRDS: include both "nature" and "bird" in your design for Nature Bird Discovery: Each design entered in the NATURE BIRD DISCOVERY contest must embody both the idea of NATURE in general AND the idea of a BIRD/BIRDS specifically. Natural elements could include things like: -- a leaf or leaves; -- a tree or trees (not cultivated suburban types, but rather, wild-looking ones) -- a vine/trailing vine or vines -- hills or a ridge(s): background hills or ridges (NOT the classic sharp-peaked mountains): a wooded or cliffy ridge/ridge line such as can be found along the Blue Ridge or Smokey Mountains of the southeastern United States. Again: low, rounded, rolling ridges NOT high, rocky mountion peaks. 4) WAXWING // FALCON // TREE SWALLOW: THE ONLY APPROVED MODEL-BIRDS Choose from these three species only: include a realistic or stylized (but shape- recognIzable) image of just one of the following birds species, each found in the eastern United States: . CEDAR WAXWING or PEREGRINE FALCON or TREE SWALLOW PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SUBMIT A LOGO WITH ANY OTHER SPECIES OF BIRD DEPICTED. SEE PHOTOS IN ATTACHMENT AND STUDY THE SHAPES CAREFULLY -- THIS IS HUGELY IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESS IN THIS CONTEST!) Again, your bird image can be REALISTIC or STYLIZED, but even a stylized version or a silhouette must recognizably depict a Cedar Waxwing OR Peregrine Falcon OR Tree Swallow. WHAT NOT TO DO: -- PLEASE DO NOT submit a logo showing a "fantasy" bird or composite/made-up bird, a tweety-bird, a hummingbird, a tropical bird, a sparrow, a dove, etc. (ONLY either a waxwing, tree swallow or peregrine falcon.) So again, this means: NO cutesy or cartoonish birds or tweety-birds NO fantasy birds NO doves NO hummingbirds or tropical birds NO eagles or hawks (only peregrine falcons!) If you choose the raptor (falcon) as your model; this is very subtle, please study the finer details of wing, tail and head shape of the bird!submit logos with eagles or hawks--only a peregrine falcon or falcon shape, -- DO NOT make your logo design too busy-looking or detailed. Simple is best -- DO NOT make your bird or design "cutesy" or babyish or too precious! -- DO NOT make your logo too "corporate" or big-business looking. This is about nature, birds & discovery -- DO NOT forget a black and white version within the same color entry -- DO NOT forget to make your design simple and bold enough to work at thumbnail or smaller size.
