I've included a large number of references for graphic designers. There are a variety of styles that will work for the Liquid Light logo. Neon lettering like American Graffiti, soft, playful bubble-gum letters, explosions of color, spray paint splotches...all of these concepts will work.
START WITH BLACK & WHITE:
Obviously, this design will be in full color. But, only the finalists need to work in color. If you are working on a rough draft, save yourself the time and energy by working in black and white.
Black and white is critical to good design. It reveals the silhouette value, negative space and positive forms within a logo. Color and 3D renders often cover up flaws. So, I prefer to begin all logos in black and white.
Also, the final deliverables will need to be both in color and black and white...so, why not begin with the black and white?
SUBMITTING EARLY IS A WASTE OF YOURS AND MY TIME:
Amateur graphic designers often submit a logo within the first few hours of the launch. The best designers often need 1-2 days to think about the contest and contemplate a cool design. So, take your time.
If you submit early and your work is amateurish, I'm not going to give you feedback. It isn't personal. I just don't have the time. I give extremely detailed feedback to skilled, professional artists who are clearly passionate about their work.
Take your time. Submit your best work, not your fastest.
PLEASE COMMUNICATE WITH ME:
If you intend to do a design, send me a message. If you want me available during a specific window of time, message me. I take my duties as an Art Director and Contest Holder seriously; I communicate quickly and I'm always monitoring the contest.
Ask me questions. You can submit a rough pencil sketch of several ideas and ask for my feedback. Let me help you! I love the design process and I'm happy to help!
The more you communicate with me, the more I'll communicate with you.
GO CRAZY, GO OVER-THE-TOP, GO EXTREME:
Most of my contests have been minimalistic, simple, clean designs. This contest is different. This product demands something fun, playful, exaggerated and ridiculous. Think like a product designer from the 1980's doing a bubble gum package. Or, design some ridiculous, over-the-top neon sign inspired by Miami Vice and 1980's video games. Have fun. Go crazy.
But, the logo must work in both B&W and color.
AVOID CLIP ART & ENVATO:
I often receive logos with clip art and downloaded content from a website like Envato or Graphic River. Please note, your work needs to be original. We'll be copyrighting and trademarking the logo, so please do not use a typeface or template.
Links like this are an excellent reference. But, please don't download the file, make a few quick edits and then submit it as an entry:
