The client for this logo is called Moms As Mentorsâ„¢. The client describes the organization as:

“Moms As Mentorsâ„¢ empowers girls to become self-confident, independent, and influential women by teaching them that their self-worth is linked to far more than their physical beauty. Through a series of program offerings that combine sports and leadership training and instruction with a collaborative, leading-edge mother-daughter curriculum, girls ages 8-14 will learn invaluable life skills. Moms As Mentors’ programs address a major self-esteem issue in American girls in two major ways. First, Moms As Mentorsâ„¢ is designed around participation in athletics, which has been linked in several studies to female leadership in Fortune 500 companies. Second, the programs require a high level of active participation from mothers, whom will be taught how to effectively raise confident girls and will gain invaluable bonding time with their daughters.â€

 

 

 

Audience

 

The primary audience for MaM’s materials consists of mothers of girls 8-14, educators, and those involved with other programs designed to help girls of that age group build self-esteem and achievement. This audience is motivated by helping the girls become stronger, more confident young women.

 

 

 

The secondary audience is the girls themselves.

 

 

 

Imagery

 

Concepts that may be reflected in the logo imagery include

 
- mom & daughter
- active
- athletic (but not necessarily a specific sport)
- running, jumping, climbing
- interaction between mother and daughter
- teamwork
- achievement 

 

 

Colors

 

The overall site and marketing design, which will play off the logo, should be colorful without being gaudy. Soft shades of green, pink, peach, purple, blue and/or yellow are all possibilities. Final design theme will likely include a warm or neutral anchor color such as chocolate brown, beige, or cream. The client has expressed a preference toward green, particularly if a monochromatic scheme is adopted. The color combination can be feminine, but should not be overly stereotypically ‘girly,’ eg pink and lavender.

 

Feel

 

Keywords for the desired feel of MaM designs include:

- energetic 

 

 

Be careful of too strong of a competitive or athletic tone. The look and feel should be non-intimidating to those who are not especially strong athletes or adept at competitive sports.

The client has indicated a couple sites and images as having the right feel. We are not looking for knock offs of these themes; rather they are potential reference points for look and feel:

 

-http://www.girlventures.org/ This organization is in a similar space, and she feels the logo successfully captures the concepts and feel that she would like to convey.

 

-http://www.lightfullfoods.com/ Though an unrelated organization, she likes the feeling of the design on this site and has indicated that a similar font may be appropriate.

 

 

 

I did a basic rendering of a concept of my own, viewable at http://www.codescribbler.com/images/mamlogoI.jpg. The idea is of a mom and daughter running or climbing together, their movements in sync. (This may not be clear due to my very limited Illustrator skills.)

 

 

 

The client’s comments include:

 

- “I like the colors - the blue and green, but am not sure about the black.â€

 

- “I also really like the image of mom and girl you created, but am not yet
convinced if it's the right fit for the program. It might just be the
middle line in the younger girl, but at first I was confused because it
appeared like beautiful calligraphy rather than an image of a person. It
might be clearer without that line.â€

 

Requirements

 

-Neatly structured Illustrator file with text converted to shapes

 

-Assurance that any specialty fonts or third-party artwork are appropriately licensed for logo use
