Eastern Shore Hang Gliding, "Come Soar the Shore"
Eastern Shore Hang Gliding operates a hang gliding school at Campbell Field Airport on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (Delmarva peninsula). The bulk of our business is taking people up on there first hang gliding flights. These are known as "Tandem Introductory Flights" or "Discovery Flights". Many think of hang gliding as launching off of mountains. There are NO mountains on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (please don't show mts in the logo!) so we use a process called "aerotowing" to tow the glider up to the required altitude (usually 2500 feet for a tandem flight), where the instructor releases from the tow plane and soars like a bird before returning to earth. We also train people towards there solo flight. Full training in preparation to solo usually takes about 20 tandem flights. More info on the business can be found at http://www.easternshorehanggliding.com
Our target audience is outdoor adventure types of almost all ages but mostly in their 20's-40's who are not afraid to try anything. Audience is similar to the skydiving audience although the sport has some big differences. Skydiving is more of an adrenaline rush activity. We have a touch of that but the soaring aspect of hang gliding is very peaceful and calming. The excuse we hear most is that a person is afraid of heights when in reality they are afraid of falling. There is no falling sensation in hang gliding.
Our website is going to be completely redesigned and will be designed in part around the logo. The logo will also be used on letter head and t-shirts. The logo should contain the name "Eastern Shore Hang Gliding" and it can, but does not have to, use the tag line "Come Soar the Shore" or just "Soar the Shore".
The logo should convey a sense of outdoor adventure and the joy of flight. It should not convey risk, danger or reckless behavior. Safety is our number one concern but we don't want the logo to look corporate or sterile.
Fonts, styles and colors that hearken back to the 1960's might be a good approach and our geography could influence the design as well. We are located on a narrow peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
But most importantly, have fun, design something fun and remember that we are just a small company that loves the freedom of flight and the joy it brings to everyone that tries it.
Need the final design to be in a vector format.
PS. I also own the airport (Campbell Field) that the hang gliding business is located at. It is an old, all grass place that reminds most of the early days of aviation. Once I get sense of the direction this contest is going in I am going to post a contest for an airport logo. See http://www.campbellfieldairport.com to get a sense of what this place is about.
