We're making an iPhone app and a web site. We need a product logo to be used on both products, and an iPhone application launch icon (probably similar to the icon, at least in colour choices). This is a teaser project to find someone very clever and talented to work on the whole project with us - so bear the whole in mind when you work on the icon & logo!
Bonus points for anyone who drops in a quick png of how the website might look :-)
Groove by Ambient Industries
We're looking for someone fantastic to work with us over the summer on the graphical assets for our complete product - web site and iPhone app - and on our broader product identity. Get an idea for who we are on http://www.ambientindustries.com.
Our app is called Groove, and it's location-based. It is all about discovering the world around you - what's happening, what's been said, right now, right here. As well as re-purposed content from more corporate sites, users will create their own content, photos with text on, rather like digital graffiti scrawled on the world. The Groove feeling is fun, slightly “street” and non-corporate. We're open to influences from ambient (music, stuff floating around you) and the sixties (groovy, man) but also very open to other ideas - perhaps something cleaner because the app won't take centre stage, we want the content to do that.
If the logo includes the word "Groove" it should also have an identifiable widget that can be used alone without 'Groove' as a part of it, which would be identifiable and memorable to users who have previously seen the full logo.
We also need the icon that the user selects to run the application. This should echo the logo somehow. I'll be generating a 57x57 icon for the phone and a 512x512 version for the app store from the vector-based PSD you supply.
Here are some websites we like:
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/142/…mgs_1.html - Pixeljunk's Eden.
http://unblab.com/login - great login screen, good simple logo.
http://chopan.tumblr.com/ - like the colourful swirls around the logo. Groovy.
http://www.ilovecolors.com.ar/ - similar.
http://typedeskref.com/ - the antithesis, simple, clear, elements leap out from the screen.
And we're very fond of the background in the iPhone BlackBook app. Perhaps this is a way to merge our desire for swirls and simplicity?
- Source provided, in vector-based format
- Works on dark or lightbackgrounds
- Different, unusual, memorable
- Icon must at least echo what the app is about, not be too abstract
- Conforms to iPhone HIG
- Icon must have square corners
- A logo that's just text
- Any test on the icon
- Don't like the use of blue as a major colour, though it's fine with, e.g. greens and aquas
- Please don't add the standard apple shine and rounded corners to the final product. But please DO show the shine and round corners when you post. We want to see what the icons will look like when apple automatically rounds the corners and adds in shine.
