100% Satisfied. The final logo is a visualization of my brief. Thonto is highly talented designer. Through studying my brief and making simple adjustments in the contest, he was able to create that exact logo I wanted. It could not be more perfect for what I wanted for this project. This was the first time I used 99 Designs and I was thrilled with the process. I received many quality designs from a variety of designers. Through using the Polls and Presentation features in the program, I was able to share my favorite designs with my family, friends and business inner circle for their feedback. I was happy to hear what I already knew, my final logo was the top choice and my inner circle confirmed that. I am already working on a 2nd project with Thonto. I can't recommend him highly enough. Thank you for this great design. It is the perfect way to kick off my new flyfishing social network company!
How biguglyracing started their logo design journey
So why would a team name themselves "Big Ugly" you ask? Well, we didn't, our fans affectionately named us that and it's grown on us. We built a rock crawling/desert racing hybrid vehicle and debuted it at a 3 day 1000 mile desert race. Our vehicle was a foot taller and probably 1000 lbs heavier than the next biggest vehicle. At the beginning of the race, everyone laughed, but by the end of the race, we were in first place and our fans cheered us on as "Big Ugly!" It was sort of a "bad news bears do desert racing" sort of story. For the past year we've been trying to promote ourselves as 4435 Racing (our racing number), however, the fans and the sponsors always seem to remember us as Big Ugly. We're proud of our vehicle and we're proud of our accomplishments. We Rock Crawl and we Desert Race so we're a combo of slow speed technical and high speed open desert. Our fans like us because we're one of the only teams who built our own rig entirely from scratch. So our vehicle may not be the most sexy or expensive, but it works and it wins races! Our fans like that we work hard, and don't take ourselves too seriously.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Our target audience are fans of our style of racing as well as potential sponsors of our vehicle. Please look through the attached documents, particularly sample logos that are used by those in our world to help give you a feel for the edginess we're looking for. These are people who like extreme and/or hard-core type of sports. The type of sponsors we're looking to attract are those that would sponsor sport teams like those that Monster Energy Drink sponsors. Motorheads who like high speed, these folks enjoy motorcycles, quads, anything that really goes fast and pushes the limits. Some of the symbols used in the community include rocks, tire tread with lots of tread blocks (for rock climbing), and speed is also something that would be good to convey in a logo. **One thing to note: we will be building future vehicles that won't look like Big Ugly, so we'd rather not use the design of the car as part of the logo** It's important that this logo be professional enough that sponsors would want to put it on their site and on press releases. We realize the name is not the most flattering, but we think it's a story our sponsors would like to hear.
We need a logo with lines that do not overlap so it can be cut out of vinyl for the vehicle. We'd also like this design to incorporate our team colors which are black and bright orange. We're open to the logo incorporating our team number, 4435. But it doesn't need to. This logo will be used on race apparel and as the logo on our web site and in sponsorship letterl. We'd like a logo that doesn't require a ton of colors so we can have it put onto t-shirts without it being too costly. We've used constantia italicized for our numbers in the past, but we're not married to it.
