Brief updated 10/08/08, AM
This contest is going to end soon.
The quality of the designs that have been submitted has (and continues to be,) on the whole, extremely high.
Thank you all for your hard work and patience during this process.
It is going to be very hard for us to decide on a winner - we will do it but it may take us the weekend to do it, which would mean that the winner would be announced on Monday morning (UK morning).
Why the delay? Well, we will need to get our focus groups back in and use their impressions to help us decide which design to go for. Although we have our personal favourites, it's not just about what we like, it's about what our clients will like, which design functions best as a logo and things like that.
We would ask you to be patient while we decide on a winner - there will be a winner and the winner will be paid, you can count on it!
Eco-friendly, Ethical, Celebrations, Baby Shower, Baby Gifts, Bespoke, Funky/Quirky
The initial idea was to incorporate a baby mink, and while we have had some excellent minks, and we have DEFINITELY NOT ruled out using a mink-logo, focus groups are telling us that many of the mink logos (not all) are perceived as looking like cats or other animals and that a logo that was conceptualised around a babyshower/babygift idea might work better.
In addition to capturing the babyshower/babygift element, the logo needs to be slick and say "cute" .. "progressive" & "eco".
The site will also have quite a bit of social media exposure so needs to be still slick as in branding but different also.
Please read the brief in full for further updated info + please look for extra info in general discussion (below designs)
***we also have a new contest on 99designs for babyshower stationary designs, where we will aim to choose at least one design and up to six! Any design that is selected for our card/invitations range will be awarded $180***
What we do (and therefore what logo needs to communicate)
Mink Baby is a site that will offer eco-friendly gifts and services aimed at people who want to celebrate pregnancy/birth of a new baby by buying presents for:
Mums-to-be, New Mums and new babies
(or mums-to-be / new mums who want to buy for themselves)
MinkBaby will also offer a range of eco-friendly services and products for the organisation and hosting of baby-related celebrations (initially baby showers but will also move to include Christenings, Naming Days, First Birthday parties etc.)
The first service that we are really going to emphasise as one of our offerings is a babyshower planning and hosting service, ethically sourced and tailored to all tastes and budgets. The babyshower market is growing but is also quite full, even so. We need to differentiate ourselves from the rest.
Bespoke is another key word, along side Celebration, Eco-friendly and Ethical. We will offer bespoke services and customers can order bespoke gift set combinations.
MinkBaby is going to be a truely ethical site (as close as) it will involve recycling, charity funding, supporting mothers and up holding eco ethics from its infancy onwards.
We have NOT written off using a mink however in the interests of clarity we would like to see either a way of getting a mink that conveys an or all of the following: baby gifts, pregnancy gifts, baby parties, babyshower
using something that does not incorporate a mink but still fulfils the spirit of this brief.
If we can get an air of celebration, of new life into the brand, that would be great.
Also, because MinkBaby doesn't necessarily automatically communicate what we do, if there's anyway to get that into a logo (and there may not be) that would be good.
We are considering adding a byline that may feature as part of or along with the logo that could say something like:
"MinkBaby: Bespoke, Eco-Friendly Baby Gifts & Services"
"MinkBaby: Ethical, Eco-Friendly Baby Celebrations"
"MinkBaby: Ethical, Eco-Friendly Baby Gifts and Services Tailored to Your Taste and Budget."
(But obviously if we had a byline it would have to be MUCH better than that...maybe the byline could be another competition?)
Hopefully the logo will be so good we won't need one at all...
The colours I have been considering are light blues, browns, greens, yellows.. the type of natural colours you would expect from an eco-oriented site.
The wording needs to be readable, but funky.. following a sketchy style .. or interesting font, depending on how it fits with the image.
While we are looking for something that is potentially sketchy etc. (it doesn't have to be, we like slick too!) there is a fine line between sketchy in a funky, branded way and the kind of logo that might be designed for a church newsletter (if you know what I mean). We are trying to err on the side of funky brand, if you know what I mean.
We also need to make sure that this image can go on something as tiny as a Moo sticker or as large as a T Shirt or events banner and still be sharp enough to be instantly identifiable.
