Ash Kramer got their new app design by running a design contest:
Design a home page and student info layout for our app for tutors!

We primarily do in-home private test prep tutoring of high school students in LA and SF. We use our own software for tutors to accept students, schedule lessons, add lesson notes, view practice tests, and access student information. Our software is not currently mobile friendly. We're designing an app that would allow tutors to view the list of their students, schedule their lessons, and add lesson notes (among other features).
Simple, clean, negative space. We have a lot of information to pack in, so whatever we can do to keep the look uncluttered would be great. Nothing too cutesy.
Compass Tutor App
We're looking for a designer who has UX/UI expertise to help with some of the movement between screens, but for this we'd like to see 2 screens: (1) a main home screen navigation page that would give tutors the following options—students, calendar, practice tests, & lesson notes—as well as a bar with messages or notifications [when people click on "students" they'd be taken to a list of their current students. When they click on one of the names, they'd be taken to (2)] (2) a page of student info with lesson and activity notes and tests. The 3 screenshots make up all of the data that a tutor would want to see. This would clearly require scrolling to get on one page, so the most important aspects are: contact info, case manager, upcoming lesson, most recent lesson note, recent activity notes, test scores (the ones in the Tests screenshot, not in the bottom left corner. With options to expand to include more data.
What to avoid
Cutesy designs. Icons are great so long as they're simple and clean. Clutter - keep it as simple as possible.

And then… they selected a winner!
I needed the designs for a basic app to help make our internal software mobile-friendly. Assaiv did an excellent job with both the initial design and the revision process. This was very successful!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
