info zmU got their new app design by running a design contest:
Design the main screen for a "People first" social/communications platform; work from existing Sketch file
Check out info zmU's App design contest…
Other Mind is a "people-first" social app that prioritizes people over content. Traditional social content, such as posts, images, files and more are combined with communication tools such as messaging, phone calls and video calls in a way that puts people first and not simply monetizes the users on the platform. The goal of this contest is to consolidate several flows in the existing app (Sketch file attached) into a single profile-esque screen that is capable of accessing all the same features. The rough pencil sketches should give you a little better idea of the direction we'd like to go, but open to alternative workflows too.
There is an existing design that we'd like to follow very closely. We are not necessarily looking for unique branding as we've already nailed that down. Instead, we'd like to focus on creating an excellent profile screen that serves as the primary workflow for the entire app. Otherwise, the only additional style consideration is that we prefer a design that is more 'tactile' than flat, and feel more like a physical interface than virtual.
The screen we need designed is the 'Profile' screen. As this app is 'People First' this profile needs to really put the person front and center and feel like this profile is a digital form of that person, not that the person is an afterthought. In addition to basic profile information, such as name, email, phone, location etc, the 'Profile' screen should provide a way to view the persons public posts (like a Facebook or Instagram), toggle/filter different content types (show/hide images, files, transactions etc), and view private messages between the Profile and current logged-in user. The most important part of the design is how the Profile is presented, as it needs to be done in a way that presents the individual first and foremost, the content and communication tools are secondary. This is the opposite of most popular platforms today.
What to avoid
Consistency with existing branding is of the utmost importance. The existing Sketch file should be sufficient to work from and keep within brand guidelines. You may need to import into your editor if you don't use Sketch, and we would prefer the final format to be in Sketch, though can work around it if not.
