amichelo got their new app design by running a design contest:
Design a Next-Generation Reading App
Check out amichelo's App design contest…
Lets people read books and gives vocabulary information and collects votes.
The start page lets the user choose a book to read and they can also upload a book. The main screen of this app is where people will read the book. Imagine reading a book on your iPad and seeing a word you don't know. You tap the word and the definition of the word sense appears. By word sense, I mean, e.g., bass guitar versus bass fish. Along with pictures of the sense, you also see one or more sentences with that word sense, translations into one or two foreign languages, and pronunciations. What would that look like? What's the ideal interface for getting this information in an uncluttered, intuitive way? Note that this is better than a dictionary because a dictionary only shows you a list of definitions. We're giving you the exact one. However, it's not perfect. You see the program made a mistake and said one definition when it should be another. You select the correct sense, perhaps by selecting from a drop-down list of definitions, or selecting one or more images that represent the correct sense. The program rewards you by giving you points, and if you've done enough, a badge. Now what would that entire interface look like? There could be ten possible definitions for a word -- or more. There may not be images for each different sense. So there's two main things going on: a way to get information from the system and a way to give information to the system. Should they be combined? Separate? How should it look? There should also be a way to go back to a main menu, a way to access a configuration menu where you can set options, and a way to logout.
