Sketches! That's all I'm looking for. No color or final designs, just sketches. Although only 1 sketch will take home the big prize winning, I'm looking for a LOT of sketch ideas outside of the winning design. Use your imagination and think outside the box! Depending on submissions, I'm hoping to get at least 50-100 fantastic sketches that I can design further after the contest.
Winner Sketch = takes home prize of $212 (adjusted after 99designs commission)
3 Star Rating Sketches = $5 (mostly objects, but could be characters or scenes)
4 Star Rating Sketches = $15 (mostly characters and scenes, but could be objects)
5 Star Rating Sketches = $25 (almost always scenes that are top notch)
What do I mean by a sketch?
It's about as basic as it gets, a raw pencil sketch by hand in black and white that's on paper and submitted to contest, or a raw sketch in an application like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Corel....basically black and white sketches is all I need. Enough detail in the sketch to help me visualize putting the sketch into my stories. Feel free to name your characters, objects, or scenes if you like. A sketch can also have a combination of characters, objects, or scenes, but it's not required.
How do I rate each sketch?
Answer: Each sketch rating is based on imagination, creativity, quality, and relevance to the story. You don't necessarily have to have great detail in a sketch to get a high rating, ultimately sketches will be used for an interactive book/game on the ipad, so too much detail could be difficult to develop further. But, I'd like enough detail to visually see how cool it would be to use in a story.
What am I looking for?
I'm looking for a variety of characters, scenes, and objects to be used for an interactive children's book series called "Critter Space Adventures". The story is basically a group of critters from earth who travel to space on a new, exporatory adenture. The series of critter space adventure stories will be an iPad app and include both interactive books and games.
The adventure starts out on earth before they launch into orbit and then they fly into space where much of the story will be played out. Along the way they encounter a few unusual, yet friendly characters in space who help them with a suspenseful and gripping moment. At the end of the story they say goodbye to their new space friends and descend back to earth. The story encourages kids to be innovative and to learn how to work as a team to solve difficult problems.
Is there anything else in particular that you are looking for?
Answer: Be imaginative!! Just because it's a story in space doesn't necessarily mean you have to use objects only relevant to space. For instance, if you were creative enough you could design a skateboard object or scene that flies in space with space features. That's just one example. I desperately need astronaut characters, space ships/vehicles, space scenes, launch scenes from earth, and imaginative objects to be used for a space adventure. If you are sketching characters please use some type of critter on earth that can be used for a critter space adventure. Prefer non-human characters.
What other requirements are there for the Contest?
1. Each design must be a sketch, no color. The sketch can be a character, scene, or object.
2. Very important to keep in mind the story theme "Critter Space Adventures"
3. Although I will only pick one winner of the contest, I will definitely be considering buying other design submissions after the contest is complete. Lots of characters will be needed for my stories!
4. Sketches can be characters, scenes, objects. Cartoon designs can be creative characters of your own imagination or used in the list below, it's up to you! The most important things to consider are that the story is a Critter Space Adventure and it's geared towards kids.
Below are the types of sketches I'm in most need of, but it's ultimately up to the designer what you want to submit. I would consider myself very open minded to characters/scenes I wouldn't have imagined before. That's why I'm launching a contest like this.
1. Astronaut Critters
Characters preferably need to be a critter that comes from earth, but be imaginative.
2. Space Ship(s)
The ship preferably has some type of personality like a character, but not necessary
3. Robot(s) in Space Ship
Description: important to have some personality, I love the robot designs from "Wall-e"
4. Space Station
Description: has character, not just a plain space station
5. Launch platform for the space ship to go into orbit
Description: fits well with critter space adventure
6. Ground Crew for space ship launch
Description: preferably non-human characters that play a critical roll in making sure the space ship launch run smoothly. That could range broadly from characters inside the computer work area or outside crew, etc.
7. Alien characters
Description: Sizes can be small, medium, or large. no space suits. also, emotions and expression can vary, but not scary. The earth critter encounters with alien species is friendly
8. Space Vehicles
Can be ground vehicles or mini flying vehicles. One example of a space vehicle that's imaginative is a skateboard that can used by a critter to fly in space.
9. Alien space ships
Description: keep in mind this is a friendly encounter with aliens and is geared towards kids
