openoceanrobotics got their new other business or advertising by running a design contest:
Case Study template for a rising startup in the autonomous marine vehicle space
Check out openoceanrobotics's Other business or advertising contest…
Open Ocean Robotics is revolutionizing the way we understand our ocean by creating autonomous solar-powered boats, otherwise known as Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs). Equipped with cameras and sensors and capable of travelling for up to one year at sea, our vessels autonomously collect data and relay this back to users in real-time. We offer a cheaper, easier, and safer method of exploring our ocean while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, noise pollution, and risk of oil spills. Our key sectors are defence/security, environmental monitoring, and hydrographic (seafloor) surveying. Our target audience is military/defence, government, investors, the offshore industry, and academia/research centres
What's your vision?
We want a two-page Case Study template that we can apply to a number of missions, to demonstrate what our USV is capable of. I will provide examples of what has been done by the team in the past, what the competition has done, and examples of designs that we like. The size should be US letter (8.5 by 11 inches), and again, two-pages in length. The design should be sleek, aligned to the Open Ocean Robotics logo colours, and easy to follow/read. Ideally a balance between text and images with enough margin to print. The ideal structure for content (I think; feel free to change if you see fit) is Overview (summary of mission), About (this can be about the company and/or our USV, Data Xplorer), Challenge/purpose of mission, Results. We haven't decided on a font, but the font in the "Multibeam survey one pager" attached is Ubuntu. We tend towards Open Sans fonts for body text and clarity, but anything with a robotics touch is always nice (our interpretation of this is Ubuntu, but feel free to choose another font. We are flexible. Our white paper reports are written in Arial). Feel free to make the two-page Case Study template two columns, or whatever you think is best structure-wise. The comments on the current case study "Multibeam survey one pager" is that it is too crowded. We provide all images and text. What we need is a design template that we can fill for multiple missions. We have complete access to Adobe Creative Cloud.
We've attached our logos in png, but these are also available as svgs. The "Multibeam survey one pager" is our current case study document, but as stated previously, the team thinks it's too crowded and wants margins so this can be printed. The "Case Study Multibeam Survey" is the past case study. The colours are not aligned to our branding (ignore the colours). It's here to give you more content to play with. Competition 2 is an example of what we want the case study to be in terms of content and messaging, but the design is very lacking. Competition 1 has too much imagery, but you can also have that as an idea of what the industry is putting out right now. A design we like (attached as "design we like") is a brochure that's very sleek and easy to read. Simple design, and I don't particularly like all the image overlays, but I do like the balance between images and text, the white space (that doesn't need to be white), and the consistency in colour/branding. We have a ton of photos we can share with you, but for the first draft, it would be good to get a basic structure/template down and we can play with images later. Other designs to have some ideas for things we like: https://www.123rf.com/photo_143927330_stock-vector-case-study-template-with-minimal-design.html and https://stock.adobe.com/ro/templates/business-case-study-layout-with-blue-accents/270826577 Feel free to be creative. We look forward to seeing your work!

Monodeepsamanta was amazing! I really felt he listened to my comments and worked so hard to get exactly what I wanted. I am so happy with the final product.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
