This design opportunity is a great chance for us to work with creative people and really push the limits of our new product! In case you are unaware, we are running a simultaneous Kickstarter campaign for our new " Ski Mask HD". We highly suggest you head over to the Kickstarter page now and take a look a the video and our early prototypes (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/657725156/winter-is-damn-cold-the-beardo-keep-warm-project). That way you can get a better understanding of what the finished product is, its use, and hopefully start generating ideas! Check out the photos as well... they can help you understand the process. If you want the be a legend, SHARE it!
Throughout this design contest, we plan to choose several designs with the help of our fanbase on Facebook. (link: http://www.facebook.com/beardowear). We suggest you get involved to help get some ideas and see what the fans like best! The designs we are looking for are unique in that we eventually need to composite them into a workable 360˚ HD print. For example, If we put a photo of someones face on our mask, we need it to look real from every angle when worn by another person. This is not an easy thing to portray accurately, and much of the final processes to achieve this '3D look' will fall on us. What we ask from you however, is for the raw photo, illustration or pattern for us to use.
Our Timeline is a bit longer than others, to work in conjunction with our Kickstarter!
• Qualifying round = Sept 12-20
• Finalists selected = Sept 20--24
• Final Round = Sept 24 -30th
** Note we will likely be selecting several designs and may select at ANY stage if we choose to do so.
Lets start off slow though…
We are looking for mask ideas from 3 main areas: Photography, illustration(character) and patterns (illustration or Photography). They can be real people, cartoons, patterns, drawings or any other creative concept you can come up with! If you are an illustrator, perhaps you have a character that you already have created, or a cool print or pattern concept. if you are a photographer, maybe you have some great full size animal, alien or people photos you think would work great! All ideas and characters must be your own of course, and they must be available for reproduction on our masks.
For the initial stage we don't expect you to create a full illustration, or photo from scratch necessarily. If you have some already illustrated characters, patterns or designs that will be good enough to submit and give us an idea of what the finished product will look like. We will accept rough sketches, proofs or sample photos. Just clearly show us your idea and we'll use our imaginations as best we can.
Take a look at the images we have attached as they may help you with the design process. FINAL DESIGN Specifics: final designs can be provided in a few ways:1) one flat image (ideal for illustrations or patterns)2) one or more photos from several angles; front, profile and back (ideal for photography)3) photos already stitched together and seemingly ready for print (ideal for photography - more advanced)
NOTE: If submitting photography, in order to make the finished product a 360˚ design we should have all angles available so we can stitch the photos together for an accurate 360˚ print design. ((NOTE: it is possible for us to create a 360˚ mask from one front photo only… its a bit more tricky, but if you have the perfect shot, throw it in the mix!)).
One thing that we have learned is that when dealing with animal photos specifically, although many images may look cool, once the eyes are edited out (to fit the mask template), it may not look nearly as good as the eyes generally make the photo. Keep that in mind!• If chosen, we will need access to 300dpi full size image(s) to cover an area of at least 50 cm x 50 cm (20 inches x 20 inches) .. that includes the front and back.
** If chosen, and we do put your design into production, we would be happy to share the finished product with you. You'll also get the design fee of course, and we'll gladly give credit to you on our website next to your design. If you have a link to your creative site, we'll post that too!
