Entertainment & The Arts
I'm in indie publisher who needs a book cover for a sci-fi thriller with just a bit of humor.
What's your vision?
I need a cover for the first book in a 3-book sci-fi/thriller series. WHAT I'D LIKE: In the middle of the cover, rotated at an angle, an interdimensional portal AKA "demon gate." In the middle of the portal, a creature's forearm & claw are emerging from a glowing orb of light in the middle. (Description of the monster is below) The arm is far enough out so you can see the column of eyes. The glowing orb looks a little bit like the probability model of a hydrogen atom, only with color shades of whites, blues, and greens. For inspiration on the glowing orb, search Google images for 'hydrogen probability density.' The portal itself is flanked by two rectangular metal posts and a mess of wires runs to a nearby control unit (which doubles as a housing for kipium, a glowing blue substance). Additional description: The portal has a glowing orb in the center and is flanked by two metal posts that create the field. To get technical, the orb is an Einstein-Rosen bridge created when an element with negative mass is tuned to a certain frequency. It's about 1.5 meters wide, 2.5 meters tall. The posts are metal and the shape is shaped not unlike a frame at a drive through car wash. However, the posts themselves look like little Van de Graaff generators. Check out images of these as well as particle accelerators. Author name on top, title (and subtitle) on bottom. Colors for the text, background, etc. are up to you. STYLE: I know it's trendy, but I like design elements that are somewhat minimal with a focal point in the center, for example the blue '02 Game of Thrones cover (with the sword), the Hunger Games books (though not necessarily the font from the latter). However, you're the one with the visual skills and good taste, so use your best judgement. More relevant descriptions and information: AUTHOR: Seth M. Baker TITLE: REACTION SUBTITLE: The End of the Iron Age, Book 1 PLOT SYNOPSIS: An awkward college graduate's family home is raided by gunmen. He escapes with his pal, leaving his father behind. He is later accused of murder, and in order to clear his name, he begins learning the secrete nature of his father's research. This research involved creating portals to other dimensions through which monstrous creatures emerged. To prevent a worldwide epidemic of these creatures, our protagonist must race around the world in an airship to track down his father's former partners. This story takes the protagonist to an underground base in Colorado, NYC, Prague, and to the temples of Angkor Wat at Siem Reap. While this is a sci-fi/adventure/thriller. there are also humorous elements (mostly at the expense of our socially-awkward protagonist). More details: I will need the front, back, and spine. No interior design is required. This book's cover size will be 5.5" x 8.5" so the cover image should be 5.625" x 8.75." I don't know the width of the spine, but if it helps the novel is standard length (85,000 words). This will be published both as an ebook on Amazon/Createspace and as a paperback on Lightning Source or a similar on-demand printer. I will need Photoshop or Illustrator CS3 compatible files with all the layers intact, including adjustment and editable type layers (I may change/add the subtitle). I will of course provide credit in the front matter for the designer. Thanks in advance for your submissions!
-For now, most of my buyers will be coming from Amazon, so any cover will need to look good at that small size. -Reaction is the first book in a planned three-book series. I would like to create a consistent brand for this series, so if your design is selected there will probably be two more projects coming your way.
