We are a new organic fertilizer company, Organic Nutrients (we got our logo from 99 Designs!). We are launching our first product label for "Insect Frass".
Frass is debris or excrement (poop) produced by insects.
Please use the attached LOGO.svg file for the Organic Nutrients logo, THE BOTTOM ONE as referenced in the .PDF to replace the generic green "Organic" place holder at the bottom of the sample Label.PPT file label. The actual PO BOX will be given shortly. We will have 3 different size containers, 2 pound, 5 pound and 40 pound bags. Just remember that we have to give metric and US measurements.
The bags are made from recycled paper and are bio-degardable, the only fact not mentioned on the sample label. If you can fit "This package is bio-degrable" that would be nice, but not absolutely necessary.
Frass is what makes the rainforest possible. Herbivore insects eat the leaves and poop out very favorable plant food. Frass has special biological properties (beneficial bacteria, fungi and protazoa) that naturally bonds to the nutrients in the soil, and in turn feeds the roots of the trees, instead of allowing the nutrients to wash away due to soil erosion from so much rainfall. No frass. No rainforests. No existence. We may not be able to educate people to this extent in this label, but that's what makes frass special, and unique to any other organic fertilizer.
First, we are Organic Nutrients, Inc. So, packaging for this product will be in Kraft brown paper bags with tin ties, like a coffee bag, but biodegradable (an image of the exact bag is attached).
Dimensions of the small bags can be found at http://www.packplus.com. Product will be distributed in hydroponic stores and nurseries mostly. We will be a natural fit for those growers already using organic products. Chemical fertilizers and pesticides kill the natuarlly occuring biology of soils, breaking the SoilFoodweb life-cycle of beneficial micro-organisms and instead put harmful substances inside the food we eat. The challenge for us is to get those farmers and growers using inorganic chemical nutrients, to use organics, for the health of the plant, those consuming them and the environment. Chemical fertilization depletes the soil of organic material, which effectively kills the living biology thats supposed to be there for the plant. Using a biologically balanced fertilizer reduces irrigation needs by up to 50%, drastically reduces the amount of nutrients leached out the soil by chemicals and irrigation, and improves water quality and food quality. We want everyone to switch BACK to organics, the way its been for 1000's of years, until industrialization!
The challenge is making an attractive, easy to read label with quite a bit of text. We are not set on the orange background so please try other earthy colors, that work with our logo, but not yellow or blue (like Guano Co.) We are open to a rainforest theme, but be careful not to look like all the lables out there with a bunch of random plants and flowers. We dont want to blend in! We want to stand out! If you use an insect as an icon, please use one from the beetle family.
The sample label for Insect Frass contains the text we are required to include on the label. We may change a couple of words, but will need space for that amount of text.
Do we use one color and be basic, with no fluff, or can we be effectively creative, with background imagery? We are a superior product to those sitting next to ours and our label will hopefully convey that (if possible!).
You will see that my example label resembles the label for Budswel, by The Guano Company. but please re-design everything so it doesn't look like a Guano Company product. I have attached images of our direct competitors so that you can see WHAT NOT to look like. I have also attached a photo of what a typical hydroponic shop store shelf looks like, with our actual competitors on the shelf in the picture. Our 2 pound bag (the average size for these types of products) will be 30% larger in size than the competition.
