We are developing a new cover for JUST THE WAY HE WAS BEFORE: THE INSPIRING TRUE STORY OF A BOY'S STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE AND TRIUMPH, by Mark Patinkin. You can view the original cover on Amazon here: http://amzn.com/B000FL8970. We cannot use the original cover for contractual reasons, however, we can use the cover photo. For a variety of reasons, we have chosen to change the title on this edition.
Text to appear on the cover:
Title: JUST THE WAY HE WAS BEFORE
Sub-title: THE INSPIRING TRUE STORY OF A BOY'S SURVIVAL AND TRIUMPH
Author name: Mark Patinkin
Quote: “A must-read story.” —Jim Craig , U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Winner
Please note that I have used all caps, but you need not use all caps. Also, please note that it should be an em-dash and not a hyphen before Jim Craig's name.
Here is a description of the book (this should not appear on the cover):
While out with his family one night, six-year-old Andrew Bateson feels suddenly feverish. Although they do not yet know it, Andrew has bacterial meningitis, one of the fastest moving of all infections, at times comparable to Ebola in the speed of its impact on the body.
Over the next three weeks, as Andrew lies in a coma, the hospital fights an often minute-by-minute battle to keep him alive. Overwhelmed, Andrew’s parents pull away from each other, and their friends wonder if the marriage will survive.
JUST THE WAY HE WAS BEFORE is a riveting medical story, an engrossing family drama, and a story of faith tested to its limits. But even though Andrew’s illness has a terrible price—both of his legs were amputated below the knee, and doctors feared he'd never use his hands again—this book is ultimately an inspirational true story of triumph over impossible odds. Andrew's astonishing, heartbreaking comeback will make a believer out of you.
We are attaching three photos of Andrew. One is the same as used on the prior cover. Another is of Andrew skating away. The third is Andrew when he was younger, before his illness I envision a cover using the picture of Andrew younger, perhaps tilted like an old snapshot, juxtaposed against the picture of Andrew skating toward the camera. You may have other ideas, of course, and I really look forward to your creativity being applied to this cover.
We are looking for a cover that communicates the inspirational and emotional sense of the book and that will attract readers to this incredible story. It should work both full size but also when viewed as a thumbnail, as most covers are initially seen at that size online.
Beyond the cover images, please do include the Quadrant Books logo, which I’ve also attached. This logo should be positioned top or bottom, preferably left, but if it fits better right, fine. It should be readable at full size, but not so large as to be distracting. Look at the logos on any published book for an idea on what size it should be.
